Am I missing something here??

I have the unfortunate duty of editing some woefully underexposed wedding footage. I've noticed that when I export a quicktime of my timeline, the image gets a little brighter. For example, I export a clip that looks ok in FCP but when exported my blacks lose saturation becoming grayish. I know that I can avoid this by watching my scopes but why would things appear to be a little darker with higher contrast in FCP?
The export is the same as source NTSC DV. I made sure that none of the picture controls in QT are not in use as well. Any thoughts??

Did you use "export using QT conversion"?
or "Export quicktime movie" then "use current settings"?

The 1st one will always lighten footage for me.
The 2nd won't, but you should make sure the QT preferences are to use fcp color compatibility.

I was using "Export quicktime movie" with current settings. I'll check the QT preferences when I get home. Hopefully thats the issue, it isn't usually set as default is it?
