Altman Prolines - any good ?

I need to add a 1K to my lighting package, and I'm curious about the Altman Prolines. They are a bit cheaper than Arri's and made in the USA , both plusses. Especially considering the nether regions that the Federal Reserve is sending the USD to. TIme for the Fed to go bye bye... ahh don't get me started. ;-)

How do they hold up, more importantly how does the focusing mechanism hold up? Any funkiness after time? Any other drawbacks?

I've searched and searched and found very few threads on these, I'd appreciate any feedback.

A supersized thank you for your input.

While I don't have the Prolines that I see on B&H, I have an older Altman 650L that's built like a tank. I love it. I've had it for a couple of years now and it's a champ. The focusing mechanism is smooth as silk. It's the best light I own.

Thanks folks. It will be the next purchase.

I love the horse also, it makes me giggle in a downright Pavlovian manner. :-O

I too love my Altman 650L. Sturdy, smooth and used in every shoot. The talent was late and we were losing the sunset side-lighting the golden autumn leaves on a tree-lined lane the other day. Fired up the little Honda gennie, ponted the 650 down the road for an amazing amount of light, and saved the shot.
