Alternatives to the classic editing desk?

Im sick of my "classic" edit desk with office chair approach- I have heard of people making "standing up" editing stations, I know macgregor uses a reclined non- office chair and a very low desk.

I personally have a nice little desk and a nice chair, but I don't think the "classic" office style setup is working for me anymore- at least not right now. My back starts hurting with in an hour (and I have a $1200 chair!). I can play games for hours in a gaming chair and feel great.

Does anybody use any alternative editing desk set ups here? Bean bag chairs? Hammocks? Coffee tables? Would love some inspiration here : )

Thanks!

At home, I have an IKEA sit-stand model of the Galant (sadly discontinued).

We are experimenting with electrical sit-stand desks in some editing bays at work - GeekDesk is pretty cheap.

Anthro stuff is awesome but expensive. They have sales from time to time though, I think.

Changing things up is a great idea.

Main thing for me is changing up input surfaces - have wacom tablets, trackballs, etc. I'm using the Wacom 95% of the time - but having something else to switch to sometimes takes a little bit of the repetition out.

I use a dining room table, because I like the amount of space, but functionally it's really no different from a desk.

I like to lay on my back on the sofa with my laptop on my chest. :cheesy:

Thanks for the insight -Guess I just need to try some things out, standing might work. Yours looks like the best option right now Terry ; )

I have been editing while standing up for years. I used a specialized Formica counter-top and have adjustable stools when I want to sit. I can send some pictures of my suite if you want to see. I also have an customized AnthroCart that I bought for standing up while working. It is nice, 72" long and very sturdy (Anthro stuff is built like a tank). I am actually going to sell the Anthro desk because of my counter-top editing suite.

Let me know if you would like to see pictures.
