Alternative to Wireless Microphones?

Hang a wired mic from the ceiling or something!

While I only shot wedding stills, many venues place absurd restrictions on what one can do in their venue, ranging from excluding absolutely perfect locations for shooting the couple up close during the ceremony, to noise abatement, thus ending the party at 9:00 PM precisely... (I've seen a venue manager flip the breaker to the band's power, because it was 9 PM... Same guy flipped the breaker on a couple's part at 5:00 PM... because the couple hadn't paid for more than 4 hours... after a brief delay, and fees paid, the music was back on...).

So, 'just hanging a mic' from the ceiling is almost not an option... Even putting a wired mic into a floral, then running a cable to hell and gone is often not an option... in my case that would be like putting up a light and running power in... not an option in some venues... speaking of which in many venues flash is not allowed during the ceremony, so all shots are handheld, or tripod and slow shutter... and in some venues, even still camera shots were prohibited (although the video tape recorder could run....).

One does have to tell the bride and groom that due to various restrictions, they may not get a shot, or a series of shots. One does have to tell the bride and groom if there are certain key events that they want the absolutely finest photography, that they may have to 're-enact' some portion, or at least pose as required.

While ADR for vows sounds a bit odd... doing unmonitored remote may be the only practical way, and a review before everyone leaves would probably be in order.

That comment was said tongue in cheek, though if you could get away with it....

Really, this thread has nothing to do with restrictions by the venue, you have to live with that. It has everything to do with what you can control.
