It seems that a lot of people love the Oktava. I would like to know if there are other mics in the same price range that people are fond of? Does anyone use the sE electronics SE2A mic? I like the flexibility of the oktava with the three capsules. What other small diaphragm condensers do people use for indoor boom work? I'd also like to record live performances too.

thanks

For the money you probably won't find a better mic. You get 3 mics (capsules) and a preamp and really good sound quality. The only real drawback that I have run across is the lack of high pass filter on the mic and the handling noise when booming; which I might add is neglagible after a couple of years of practice.

I`m doing the same research...

I first found the modded oktava that some says thats sounds as goos as a Neumann KM-84 for $450

Then found the Avantone CK-1 that cost $149 , supposedly sounding as good as a modded oktava (read it in taperssection.com i think) , but heard some samples in this forum that didn´t sound good at all, maybe was the recorder, a zoom h4n that doesn't have good pres... strange because these mic have a lot of raving fans

Finally there are this busmanaudio, that start modding the CK-1, and now have their own line of this mikes, selling matched pairs for $450 eachs mic with 4 capsules (omnidirectional, wide-angle cardioid, cardioid, hypercardioid)

http://www.busmanaudio.com/bsc1.html

So I cant decide, i was going for the avantones, but the recording in this forum held me back...

Help!!!
