I have this old lens from the 80s that I use, a full frame a-mount Minolta 17-35mm F2.8-4.0 that I got for $300. I use it on my Sony vg900 and it's a focal range I may be using more of in future shoots so I was curious if there were better alternatives out there than this one. I posted in the general forum because I don't mind getting adapters as my e-mount vg900 camera can use lenses from most manufacturers. My main requirements are that f2.8 is as slow as I want to go, I need to be able to put a filter on it, and it must be full frame. I've found some alternative lenses but the ones I've found from Nikon, Rokinon, Sigma, etc don't seem to take a filter on the end because the lens element protrudes out from the end of the lens. I need a compact setup so I can't use matte boxes or anything like that, the way I use my current Minolta 17-35 is I slap it onto my v900 with the a-mount adapter, bring my heliopan variable nd filter and tripod with me and off I go filming in the park with my film subject. It's a small setup which doesn't draw attention and is easy to carry as sometimes it's a short hike to find nice film spots. Anyways, are there any good alternative to this lens? I use it in full manual so I don't need auto anything. The only one I've found so far is the Sony SAL-1635Z which is $2000, and the one review I read on it indicates that it's only slightly better than my $300 Minolta. There's a Canon 16-35mm 2.8, but another review says that optically the Sony Zeiss 16-35mm is a touch better.
EDIT: I forgot to mention, this would be used for video only, not still images. I like the little Minolta that I have, but the main improvements I would like are less vignetting, 2.8 across the whole range, and maybe slightly sharper corners.
