So I have this pet peeve: If your like me and have a bit of gear, you have multiple battery systems to purchase and maintain. At last count, I have 9+ different battery systems. They are all expensive and have to pack a bunch of chargers. And if I have a larger shoot, I darn near need a person just to wrangle batteries.
For my audio bag, I use a Tekkeon and it works pretty well and has multiple voltages available as well as usb power, but each battery is a unique system in itself. So how about a different take: Make an adapter for a common 12v Li-Ion battery and output with a 4 pin xlr and other adapter types and reduce the different battery burden as is possible, to a common type. As a starting point, look at the 12v Bosch tool system batteries. They are compact and somewhat economical (under $50) and perform really well in that line of tools. You can go down to Lowes and buy them or at any other store that sells power tools. If more reserve was needed, multiple batteries could be run in parallel. Think of something like the BDS system used for pro audio except instead of using AB batteries or NP-1 types, it would use a common and inexpensive power tool battery, pick your favorite brand.
I know that you can also do something like this with Bescor bricks, but you can't remove the battery and replace it on the fly, so I think there is room for something different.
I'm to busy to take this on, but seems ideal for a crowd-fund or possibly someone entrenched in Chinese manufacturing could do this. Coollights comes to mind. Are you listening Richard?
