alternate lighting...

I just found these at costco for $19.97, original was $34.99. They call them happy lites, they are 5000 lux with a natural daylight spectrum. They hardly produce any shadows if put at a distance of 1ft+.

Do you think I can rig six of this together and use them for a lighting situation? skylight in a living room or a scene....?

dcrin3, dude, Yeah, if you think that it is a cool light and you can see it being used to light a video that you want to make, then it is a useful light. Now, I have shot with professional gear and used some large lighting/grip package on paying gigs. However, some of the most fun projects I have shot have been very guerilla fictional narrative gigs (low budget features and shorts) and have used some very unconventional lighting to good effect. I did a low budget horror flick once where my favorite light for the shoot was a two tube fluorescent desk lamp. This light gave out a beautiful soft light, and was daylight balanced. I manipulated white balance to keep this light very blue. For that show, I used difference in light color to build depth and the results were very good.

Now, I would try to put together a lighting kit with more conventional lights also. I would add unique lights like the ones above, if you can get them to work for you, to your kit and use them when you think it is right.
