Altering audio to sound like phone call

Any tips? That is, I'm wanting some dialogue to sound as if it's the other end of the phone call... ie that staticy fuzzy sound. The audio effects controls in PP2 are all over my head...

The audio isn't something I could recreate either... so holding a mic up to a phone and recording isn't an option.

Thanks in advance!

I used the multi-band compressor in PP2 to crank the high freq and lower the lows. Since our boom mic was a piece of sh** it turned out ok, but if you're looking for anything more realistic or pro, I don't think its the best way to do it.

Hi,

what you need to do is to keep sound information between 300 Hz and 3400 Hz (which is actually the bandwidth of a simple ISDN phone).

To do this you must use an EQ (equalizer) to cut everything below 300 Hz (low-cut) and above 3400 Hz (high-cut) - this is called a band-pass.
Alternatively you might try keeping frequencies between 4 kHz and 8 kHz (just gauging right now, but it is important that the passing frequency bandwidth is narrow to get the effect. The higher the bandpass, the broader it should be.

The easiest tool you can use is a graphical EQ (or a parametric EQ with graphical display) which provides a quick and easy-to-understand curve of the audio frequency spectrum.

To get better results, use an additional compressor AFTER the EQ.
Try starting with those parameters (maybe not all of them are available):

Threshold -20dB
Attack 3 - 6 ms
Release 20 - 40 ms
Compression ratio 3:1

Thanks for the help guys! The best method I found for my footage was to use an EQ as described above. With frequencies between 1kHz and 3kHz. Tried using a compressor, but couldn't hear any noticable changes it made... Still happy with the results though.

Thanks!

im not so good at this audio stuff, and was trying to achieve the same effect in PP2.0...

which audio filter did you use, and specifically what settings on it did you alter?

Thanks!
