already converted XMF files for use in premiere pro 2 (without cineform)

Hello everybody,

here's my question. I edit my work in Premiere Pro 2.0, from original HVX200 720 pN XMF files, which were converted to AVI using Aspect HD from Cineform. Now, thing is, I have recently gotten my own computer. I always edited at my producer's office. Since I have my own workstation, is it possible to take my converted files to my own pc, which doesn't have cineform and just make a new custom setting in Premiere? I looked at the custom settings and if I choose 'Desktop', it lets me change the frame sizes. But when I put in 960 x 720, it shows up as 4:3.

Is editing at my own station at all possible without buying cineform twice? As I said, I can convert at my producer's office and then take my converted AVI's home on an external disk.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

if theres a free cineform codec for playback so you can play the files not encode them you could install that on your home machine to read those files.

OR

Export a copy of your files from your producers machine as a generic universal uncompressed codec like animation or photojpeg to work with on your home machine.

NEO Player is the free download we prove for this suitation, it will install CineForm decoder and Premiere / AE importers so you media will continue to work. As for 960x720 content, you will need to set the pixel aspect ratio to 1.333:1 so that it is displayed as 1280x720 -- you can do that in any of the Premiere modes.

Many thanks David. I assume the NEO Player is located at the official Cineform website? My producer had told me that he could only licensce his Aspect HD on one computer, but since I now have my own workstation we were a bit frightened that it was impossible for me to work at home and just at his office.

Once again, many thanks for the help and the very quick answers!!

Thanks again David. This NEO Player really opens up the idea of working on multiple platforms for me. Say I was to take my converted AVI footage after my edit to a friend of mine who does my After Effects colour corrections, is it safe to assume that if I bring the NEO Player codec with me and install it on his PC, that we can work at his place too with the footage?

That is the idea. You can also have you AE friend download NEO HDV/HD/2K with a free 15-day so he can also encode to new CineForm files. You first hit it always free :)

Oh this is fantastic news! I didnt know the neo player allowed that! Need to do the exact CC thing Mr Brown is talking about at work.

Ok, so I finally got a chance to test it out at home and heres what happened. The converted files all do play fine in Premiere Pro 2 at my own desktop, where I only have the Neo Player. The image looks fine, but it doesn't link the audio files with the video when I drag a clip into the timeline. If I click a audio file and listen to it individually it does play, but not when I drag the video to the timeline. When I select a videoclip and it's correspondant audio clip and drag that to the timeline, it gives me two clips, the audio file and the video file with a attached silent audio file.

Also. I'm wondering, since the used files in the time, they always show up red above the timeline, when I hit [ENTER], it won't let me 'temp' render them for smoother playback. Does this mean I can't edit my project like I normally do? Like small changes which I render out in the timeline itself, not the final high quality rendering out when a project is done? Because that I would have to do when I take the complete project, with original medial files when I take the project back to my producers office, which has the Cineform codecs.

The main things I am worried about, if I can edit smoothly all this 720 pN footage at home with every clip highlighted as red in the timeline and if I have to group every single audio file to it's correspondant videofile? And if this will all translate well if I take the project back to the producer's office for the final High Res render?

Cheers in advance.

As the MXF files can four audio channels, and AVI typically (for compatibility) have only two. We have embedded the front channels in the AVI and the additional channels in the .WAV file. Most have the camera's audio so the empty data ends up in the wav.

Red lines are Premeire's way of say the file format is not the default rendering format, it has no baring on real-time performance when using NEO Player -- so you don't want to render, just ingore it. Of course Aspect HD and Prospect HD setup presets so that the default renderer removes the red lines, plus add an acclerator for additional performance.

Usually when converting the MXF files to AVI, the audio stays locked when I import the AVI in the Premiere project. Since my producer upgraded to Prospect, maybe he changed something in the HDlink preferences? I mean, up till now every conversion was always with a locked corresponding audio part. If so, what do I have to watch out for in the HDlink preferences so I can edit with locked audio?

Once again, many thanks David for answering these questions, you've been a real lifesaver. The whole 720pN is relatively new for someone who's only worked with miniDV and Super16mm.
