Alpha Channel?

Is it possible for me to export a clip from FCP 5 w/ Alpha Channel on and have square pixels? I'm able to export the clip with the square pixels, but the Alpha Channel isn't exporting right. Any advice would help.

Thanks in advance,

You have to export in a codec that supports Alphas - for example, the Quicktime Animation codec.

When you do that, make sure you have chosen "RGB+" from the export window.
Otherwise you'll just be exporting the RGB channels.

Sorry for the simple question, but how do you export in QT Animation? Also, where would I find the option to choose "RGB+" on the export window?

Thanks,

Go to 'File'
Choose 'Export'
Choose 'Using Quicktime Conversion'

On the dialog box that pops up, make sure the 'Format' menu says "Quicktime Movie"
Then hit the "Options" button

The "Movie Settings" menu will pop open.
Under the Video section, choose "Settings"

The 'Standard Video compression Settings' menu box will open.
At the top you'll see the "Compression Type" pull down menu.

Choose "Animation" from the menu

Then, choose the 'depth' in the 'Compressor' portion of the menu (in the botttom left)
You want to choose "Millions of Colors+"

Hit OKAY on that.
Then hit OKAY on the 'Movie Settings' menu
(make sure you're exporting Video AND Audio if you need them both)

Then just choose where to save your file, and hit Save.

That's it.
Good luck -

One thing that I've noticed when exporting with alpha, is that the FCP timeline
should *not* be rendered. It's strange, yes. Maybe it only happens when chroma-keying? Dunno. Anyhow, I get the edit all finished, then I make a small change to force the cute little orange line to appear, then I export, using the Furry One's technique.
