all you smart investors - question

I'm just now getting into investing. I know that somewhere on the web you can sign up for "mock" trading where they give you a theoretical amount of money (say 50k) and you get to practice buying and selling stocks. I just don't remember where that place is.

Anyone know?

Are you planning to invest or trade? There's a big difference. The sites you are referring to generally appeal to daytraders. Google 'trading contest'. Some of the forex (foreign exchange or buying & selling currencies) companies have practice accounts that allow you to practice currency trading. finance.yahoo.com has plenty of stock, bond, and options info. Most of the brokerages have decent research online. If you pm me an email address I can send you a couple of newsletters I've written on emerging technologies, but they're targeted more towards long-term buy & hold strategies.

J Michael,

Sorry, I meant daytrading. That's what I'd like to set up. Some sort of "game" that allows me to invest in the stocks I'm looking at and just watch them perform (practice) over a period of time to see if I'm any good at it (or it's something I'd like to pursue).

Do the Forex practice accounts only allow you to practice currency trading? I'm looking for something that allows me to trade stocks like Apple, Dell, Starbucks, etc.

Yep, forex is just currencies, which some might argue are less likely to be manipulated than stocks. You have the advantage of higher leverage (and hence more risk).

Jason, do you know the specific link that gets you to the practice area? the site is kinda big and I can't find it.
