I'm doing a music video and I want the backround completely white with just the artist performing how can I go about doing this?

Re: All white background

Find a completely white wall and shoot with it behind him?  Fill in the shadows with white light.

Re: All white background

If you can't find a white wall, consider buying a background ( muslin, collapsible) or a roll of white paper or even put together a frame and hang white sheets. My guess is the look you want you need a really, really, white wall and that might be hard to find.

Re: All white background

I think what your after is refered to as white limbo. If you need to see the singer full figure, you need to either find a studio with a cyc, or create a cyc with a roll of white backgound paper. You mount the roll 8 or 9' high and roll it out down to the floor, bringing it forward from the hanger to create a seemless background by bringing it right to the talent's feet.. Make sure you have someone controlling the roll as you roll it out, because it will roll itself off the hangers and get all wrinkled. Use a large grip clip to lock it when you are done rolling it out. The rolls only come 8' wide, but these days it's easy to garbage matte the rest of the BG in post. the other must for white limbo is soft light. I shoot the host wraps for Penn & Teller's Bullsh1t on Showtime in white limbo, and they use an array of Spacelights for the background lighting, and big chimera banks for the frontlight, but you could do it with four (hopefully you have five and can add a backlight shooting over the paper roll) fixtures. Put a light on either side of the background making an even pattern on it, and two
soft sources for the talent on either side, from an angle that lets his shadows fall off of the cyc. Hope this helps, good luck.

Re: All white background

A little tip for your post prod. You can often pull a partial luminance key from the white bg that you shoot and this can really clean up the bg and help produce a great limbo look.

Re: All white background

ive always had luck shooting a large piece of fabric as the background and lighting it from behind. A great way to evenly spread the light and get some interesting "washed" out and "overexposed" background effects
