all TV's widescreen?

I was looking at TV's the other day and the salesman told me in two years all TV's must be widescreen! Is that true?

I know all TV station had to go digital last year.

All they have are high end widescreen TVs in this store. Maybe just a sales pitch.
 
hd signal is 16:9. all stations must broadcast in hd in 2009. so in terms of future use, getting a widescreen tv is better. also, many dvds are set up for widescreen.

the downside is that many programs are not yet broadcast in hd. so with a widescreen you'll either have the bars on the side or you'll have to stretch the image and it will look like crap.

must they be in widescreen? no. but they likely will be being as it is preferred for hd.
 
No all stations must broadcast DIGITAL, by 2009. That does not mean HD, it means Digital SD too.. As far as i know theres no date for "all HD".

my mistake, TimurCivan is right. it has to be digital, not necessarily hdtv.
 
I knew it all had to go digital. . I guess in a couple of years there won't be many non widescreens for sale anyway.
