Aliens Versus Predator Requiem

Whether it sounds suitable, precocious or not, you guys were questioning those who named it and if they knew what requiem actually meant. If you go by what a requiem is or its symbolism; the way it was also used by Hubert Selby Jr., it is blatantly obvious they knew what the word meant.

However, if you wanted to make a case about the Wachowski brothers knowing what revolution or its plural means, I will not object.

So only certain types of movies are allowed to use words like requiem in the title?

You guys should make some posts about Gus Van Sant's Elephant, asking if he actually knows what an elephant is and then when somebody says "I am sure he does" you guys can follow up with "I guess he thinks elephants are cool".

I think an AVP take no prisoners gorefest sounds cool, it reminds me of the comic books not a slasher film. Honestly were any of the Aliens or Predator movies standard teenage slasher films, come on sarcasm is pointless. And underestimating a new AVP movie That promises to be nothing like the first one is just silly.

The trailer do look pretty good, then again trailers are known to be misleading. Everyone agrees the first one sucks, but based on this trailer I would give the second one a chance, maybe they learned from their mistakes on the first one... or maybe they think suckers like me will go see a part 2, in turn rake in at the box office. who knows.

I'm pretty sure "Requiem for a Dream" (the title) was never intended to mean "Death of the American Dream."

It's pretty clearly used in its correct form, as a piece of music or a mass or celebration of the dead (the dream), and the "dream" would be the dreams of the main characters. While the movie was drek, the title was sterling.

I don't see a whole lot out there which uses "requiem" as a synonym for "death."

Do you realize that Requiem for a Dream was a novel prior to being a film? Read the book and look up some critiques on the symbolism and meanings within it.

Were the dreams of the main characters different from the 'American Dream'? Were they not dreaming of a better life? Happiness? Success?

Don't be a wiseguy peck.

F****N Willow! That movie was traumatic.

According to Wikipedia:

Selby explains the title of his book in this context — it is a requiem for some specific dream ("A" dream) as opposed to the larger, overarching "American Dream" ("THE" dream). While an individual dream can wither and die, the American Dream is persistent and cannot be easily overcome, certainly not by those who are so entangled in it that they cannot see it.

In any case, whatever the "dream" is supposed to be, "requiem" is not used as a synonym for "death," but rather in its correct denotation.

It is Requiem For A Heavyweight...Requiem For A Dream.

Not of...for.

If it meant death (which it doesn't), it would be Requiem Of...

I know someone will argue that it you can say 'death for something' and be correct, but the word means what it means...regardless. I think most filmmakers know the definition. Hopefully, Aliens Versus Predator: Requiem means this film was created to celebrate the death of a bad movie franchise in it's early stages.

dictionary
1. Requiem Roman Catholic Church
a. A mass for a deceased person.
b. A musical composition for such a mass.
2. A hymn, composition, or service for the dead.

Basically it is a "song for death" and it is befitting a title as any.

No idea on the director skills but the plot is much better than recent entries

I've always wanted to see it come to Earth
