Alexa DIT job

Hey guys,

There is a possibility that i may be covering for a DIT on a local feature that is being shot on an Alexa this week... Safe to say i'm sh*tting myself at the thought of it haha but also super excited as although i have had SOME experience as a RED DIT i don't have any big feature experience or ANY Alexa experience.

I was just wonder if anyone has an words of wisdom as a DIT or an Alexa assistant...?

I am used to working with EX1's / SXS cards and i think although once i get my head around the workflow i will be fine, i am a bit apprehensive as it is a huge responsibility!

Also, if anyone has any links to Alexa workflow etc that would be fantastic!!

I have less than two days to prepare now haha

Cheers!!

Start by snagging a copy of the manual: http://www.arridigital.com/downloads

Same page has an online link to an interactive web based app which mocks up the camera controls: http://www.arridigital.com/technical/simulator

There is a menu chart etc.

Here is a link to a bit of info you should be aware of on the Alexa workflow for DITs at creative cow as of Sep 29, 2010. In particular note Gary Adcock's Info: "it is currently recommended to CLONE each Card so that when the cards are remounted the XML path is accurate." http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/294/209

Have fun!

In addition to my initial post, as far as i know my main responsibilities will be the offloading and archiving of the footage etc and not grading, syncing or setting up the camera as some AC's/DIT's might.

And Craig, by pure coincidence, the girl that i am taking over from on the shoot actually started that Creative Cow topic at the start of the shoot! haha I should hopefully be speaking to her soon.

Thanks

Sounds more like you're the data wrangler. Look to threads on reduser for backup strategies, as the workflow itself is similar. There are programs that backup from drives and media cards with a sum check to ensure copy integrity, make multiple copies at the same time, etc. Also, will you be creating low rez proxies or just doing the data management? On the last two films I consulted on, I combined the data wrangler duties with the second assistant duties so that the it went from set into post pretty seamlessly. So in addition to the above, proxy creation, syncing, and project organization. This worked because the set was literally next to the cutting room.
