Alesis Multimix 8

Has any one had experiance with the Alesis Multimix 8 firewire? How will these pre amps compare with the ones on my XH-A1? If this is not a good product, does anyone have any suggestions in this price range ($300)?
 
Don't know the 8 but I use the 12 and the pre's are pretty good, seem to be pretty low noise and clean. I know a number of production mixers using the Multimix mixers with BoomRecorder and I haven't heard complaints about the sound. It has some issues as a production mixer but mostly that is mechanics. Like the channel outs to the Firewire port are all post fader, so you can't really do an active mixdown and discrete tracks at the same time. There are a limited number of sends so running multiple feeds (say to cameras) can be a challenge. Mine has done a fair amount of traveling, well protected but not in a dedicated box, and has never had any problems. Plus very hard to beat for the price.
