Taking advice from some on this board, i purchased and AKG CK93 Blueline Microphone....and WOW!!!
It has been said this is primarily an interior mic. Well, I wanted to let everyone know (in case you didnt already know) that this thing sounded FABULOUS on my outdoor test. I shot a scene between two actors ( myself and another guy). Whats more, we ran it directly into a dvx100B with no mixer, no nothing, and the results were nothing short of outstanding..
Im not condoning not using a mixer, etc.. im just saying i couldnt believe how outstanding this thing sounded the way we did it.....When i watched the edited version on my bigscreen at home, it was as good as feature films ive seen!!
The only SLIGHT negatives i can say are:....You have to work at keeping the mic close and placed right to get the best sound.. but that is true with most mics and hypers i think..isnt it?
Also, when taping room tone, i noticed a slight hiss when i turned up the volume in post. Is this self noise? ---- but this hiss wasnt apparent with the outdoor scene at all.
Im not sure if it will be apparent on indoor scenes. On the indoor test i did, it sounded decent, but i taped in the kitchen and the refrigerator didnt help things.. i imagine if i unplugged the fridge it would have sounded a lot better.
So at least for today, I was actuallly more impressed with the outdoor results. There was lots of noise going on outside., ie, lawn mowers in the distance, and neighbors just being neighbors. But it isolated the dialogue of the actors really well. It was crystal clear dialogue and the chirping birds were just the right volume..It sounded natural as can be.. full.... amazing...I still cant believe the results....Im thinking about posting this scene online, but sometimes peoples computer speakers dont do justice...
Im convinced i can use this mic for our feature in '08! Indoor AND out!!!!
At first i was bummed a little that i couldnt afford a schoeps or a mkh50... but not anymore....Im not saying this mic is better than those, ... but it sure is a great buy for the money!!-
Okay, im done!! Just wanted to say Thanks to all that recommended this mic in prior posts!
