Hello,
When one has AJA Kona 3+ K3-Box Breakout Box, is it necessary to have Cable Kit to connect together "AJA Kona 3" and the "K3-Box Breakout Box for Kona 3" ?
Thank you

Yes they need to be cabled together. When you buy the breakout box it will come with an additional cable to connect with the Kona 3. You will also use one of the cables that came with the Kona 3 card. Two sets of cables connect the Kona 3 to the breakout box.

You'll also have your first experience with miniature BNC cables. Before I owned the K3 and breakout box, I had never even heard of miniature BNC connections. They work well.

The new RED camera uses miniature XLR inputs for it's audio connections. Pretty unusual. Once again, I never even knew such a connector existed besides TA-3 and TA-5. But the RED XLRs looked like something different than those.

I don't know if anybody will see this thread after this long, but I have a related question. I just bought a Kona 3 on eBay and it only came with the main breakout cable. The mini-BNC to BNC was not included. I was thinking about buying a K3 breakout box but wasn't sure if the BNC cable set would be included with the breakout box. If not, does anybody know where I can buy the BNC cable set?

It's a pretty unique cable, I would think you need to get it from Aja. They have the BEST customer service in the world, call them tomorrow and they will get you taken care of whatever you need.

Aja rocks!

Love them.

schematic for the aja lo to k3 breakout box connections

I apologize if this question(s) is pretty basic but.......Is there a schematic that shows the proper connections for the combo of the Kona 3-AJA lo and AJA K3 breakout box. I have both cables connected from the breakout box to my macpro kona 3 card, complete with the mini bnc connectors. So the rack mounted K3 breakout box simply allows easier connections from other digital sources? Alternatively the AJA lo converts analog signals (in my case Betacam SP) to digital signals through the firewire connection to the Mac and Final Cut Pro? Have I got this right? Thanks.
