Airsoft vs Blank firing replicas

Just picked up this add-on for the M92

http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=516762&cm_mmc=Froogle-_-Optics%20-%20Scope%20Rings%2C%20Bases%2C%20Mounting%20%26%20Accessories-_-PriceCompListing-_-516762

Going to buy the rings live, though. Need to make sure they're perfect size for the mod.

Probably going to paint the mount a metallic red brushed finish. I've already taken to scouring the (black) pistol with a steel pad.

Also, I found some vids and write-ups about burrowing out the barrel so that the gas/flash can escape from the front. Not sure if I can use my hand drill or if I need to have it professionally done at a shop. Still researching.

I'm going to mold a brass/copper swivel sight that will actually swivel up to lock above the mount and attachment as well as wrapping the grip plates in a soft leather and hand-stitching a holster to accomodate the massive height of the thing. Should be extra greasy steam punky by the time I finish.

I'll be picking up that double barrel paint gun and start mods on that soon as well.

Now I need to find a good bottom mount for this sucker!

About the drill out. Remember that the "hole" must remain small enough to provide enough recoil/blowback to cycle the action. Over do it, and it'll never work good again, if at all.

Cannot stress that enough as well! We were using a bunch of ARs with rings in the front and each one had to be carefully tuned or the blowback would not work. In fact, some of the rings worked in some of the ARs and not others!

RIck -- Not sure I understand your post. What do you mean "rings"? Were these blank-firing?

The rings I was talking about are Weaver-style (etc) for scope and flashlight mounting.

These weren't blank firing, they were rings fitted into an actual weapon, however, the tolerance for the holes at the end were VERY tight. The armorer had them made and each gun was VERY tricky he said. He was trying to balance the look with the performance of the blowback. I only mention that I imagine you will find the same thing. You get that hole just a little too big (which he said was easy to do) and the blowback won't work anymore.

One thing to consider, if you do make it too large, is it repairable?

Well.......I am back from the AZ job. And guess what I picked up??????

An Uzi PFC from Marusin. An old one. And full metal, size and weight. And a few other choice and tasty toys. (Of course, now I am $3,000 in the hole.) I'll post up a couple pics later.

If any of you are interested, I will go over, in detail, how to maintain a PFC gun and then you will see how much work they can be.

As to the "drill out issue", what I was talking about is converting a "blocked fire" blank into a front discharge one. Like I was trying to hint, I do not recommend it. It could destroy a decent blank gun.

Nice. I'm planning on picking up a few MGC ones soon. I don't think they're as good but I need the silencers the kit comes with. Having both the small and large magazine is pretty cool too.

Please do. I'd like to know if I've been doing it wrong.

Rick I just saw that you asked a question.

My answer:

When dealing with controlled explosions, as in a blank gun, re-welding is NEVER an option. Man, too many things can go wrong. You are adding uneven heat stress to something designed to accept heat evenly. Cracks can develop, even if they are not visible. That can be dangerous if not fatal. If you try to do that drill mod and it goes wrong, make it a really nice hero non-firing prop.

I have no control over what people choose to do. But let's just say, I won't be doing that mod ever. If I need a forward venting blank gun, I will buy one designed for that purpose.

Agreed. Although I'm going blank fire and Nerf in my next short, I'd like to learn more about PFCs

Just get ready to have a bit of money set aside for PFC's. Caps, rounds, and replacement parts are expensive, and need to be replaced frequently, especially on the newer ones. Think of it like owning a high performance vehicle. Maybe you can afford the selling price, but you have to ask yourself if you can afford the upkeep of it.

But if you can get them and maintain them, they give you everything you need for a weapon on film without using the real thing (and NEVER USE THE REAL THING)

for those worried about the hassle of adding spent shells in post on an airsoft gun, you can get full metal, gas blowback airsoft guns with all trademarks that do eject shells. they're chrome but you can paint them to resemble brass. you also dont need to rig the mags as they operate as the real thing, locking back once all shells are ejected. all that's left then is the muzzle flash.
i'll see if i can find some footage of one to post up here.

search the classifieds on airsoft forums. picked up a 40 cal glock 23 shell eject-r with full trades and six shells for 90 bucks.
the airsoft guys get them thinking they'll be cool but there pretty useless in an airsoft game and the shells get lost easily and they're about a buck a piece so they end up selling them off for cheap.
never paid more than 150 for an airsoft gun and that was for a highly modified nickle plated full auto gas blowback 1911 variant.

Just picked up the primer and black hammered finish for the blaster (I'm tentatively calling it the RL7 Korasache). Sanding and polishing has begun. Using a clear gloss lacquer for seal with a concrete patch mix for internal hollow parts for weight and a good quality spackle for the holes. I need to grab a new drill bit for the stock tomorrow then it's mini lights and digital counter. Should be epic!

No, I just thought it sounded cool. LOL

I thought R was like Rifle...L like laser, maybe?

Korasache just looked Russian and cool, sounds a little like my wind up 16mm cam.

Ordering the digital counter and LEDs. Yay!

(noticed that they moved the thread -- but no sticky! D'oh!)

Freddie is a good guy, and a very talented film-maker. And looking at what he has done.......shows it can be done very safely and on a low budget. Many states have strict laws about blank firing weapons, where/when they can be used.

Here in So cal.........to use blank weapons:

1. Full permit
2. Insurance
3. Fire department on set (due to blank ammo being considered "pyro")
4. Police department on set.

Airsofts...........well.......as long as the current bill doesn't pass and you have made the proper notifications and gotten a permit if requested.......and not out in the open to the public if you haven't....

Yeah airsoft props are cheaper and safer.

He even expresses how important it is to notify people around he filming location that they are not using real guns. I think it's just a matter of being creative. They do remove the orange tips from the airsoft guns for filming or cover them up with tape but they put them back on when they are done.
