Airsoft vs Blank firing replicas

PFC Guns: Good
Real Guns: Bad, very bad :furious3:

I cannot believe anyone would even suggest a real gun on a set.

Yes, usually your replica guns are "PFC's" or non-firing models. I don't like the term they use, "replicas". It get's confused sometimes with "reproduction", which is a whole other animal.

Blank guns normally use a modified shell such as 8mm or 9mm P/A. The blanks guns don't chamber any known livefire ammunition and cannot be made to do so.

Both catagories fall under the term "non-gun", which allows a person to purchase them under only light restrictions. (Over 18, etc.) But no BATF involvement. BUT........you must still follow local laws.

EDIT: forgot to mention propane guns which are sometimes used on bigger models like the mini-gatling gun in Predator and Terminator 2, or more recently (I believe) the automatic shotgun in The Expendables. The gun from Predator sold for around $250k in the last few years so these propane prop guns are probably out of most DVXUSER's price range
Um, no offense to what you have read, but I know who owns the real "Predator" M134 quite well, as well as the manufacturer of it. It wasn't a Oxy/Propane rig, just so you know. I know exactly where it is, here in CA (behind 1' of steel and concrete and has my drool on it - hopefully no DNA testing will be done on it). And it cannot be rented out until the proper permits are obtained (and probably never will be again). Needless to say BATF stepped in on it.

Does this friend of yours have any other cool post-Stembridge liquidation items? They had all the craziest stuff, it would be interesting to know where it all went.

As for the mini-gun, what kind of rig was it then? Acetylene? If not, what powered the belt feed? A giant battery? And what kind of blank produces that 3' blast?

I wasn't aware BATF came down on Class 3's. When and why did that happen?

Wrong permits for it. It a real one, firing blanks. Major bad juju in BATF eyes.

He is holding on to everything. Tried that.

When it comes to that kind of hardware, and it's not just "Class III" it falls under ITAR as well. And some other nasty regs regarding military equipment. Like buying a fully functional M1 Abrams. Ain't going to be allowed for a citizen to just buy one off the shelf, no matter what tax stamps you have. My goal is to build one that is a prop, using some of the real hardware, but still outside the purview of BATF. Not like the POS airsoft version. Mine will be using many of the real parts. But shhhhhhh. LOL

That's...hilarious. I still don't see how blanks could make those anaconda muzzle blasts though. Even the "flame rounds" don't make 3' blasts do they? Especially on a gun with that long of a barrel. It sure as hell isn't digital...

Do you know where the other 4-5 mini guns went? Are they still in California?

I have seen some of those blank rounds, especially if loaded with a slower burning powder be especially spectactular, though not realistic.

Not sure about the rest of them.

Maybe this should be a stickie thread?????? This could really help anyone trying to film with weapons, and how to do it.

Just the numbers alone say people are interested in this subject.

I agree with the sticky, especially since you explained how to rig the air-soft gun so that the hammer doesn't lock.

Also, my blank-firing Berretta is in the mail!!

Promise to take some video of it once I have it checked out.

ADD: I'd not heard of PFC guns before. Lots of websites for them. How do you find working with them, Doc?

They can be very tricky sometimes. The maintenance of them is very stringent, if you want them to work right.

Sounds good.

Also I just got word on a location from a friend of mine that we're going to not only be able to shoot some action scenes in this guy's private forest, but he's also going to let us blow **** up!! :D

He said we could use quarter sticks all over his property!

BOOM BABY!

Take that Action Essentials!

;)

Have you ever purchased from anyone online? I just found these sites as well.

http://www.modelguns-worldwide.com/pistols.htm

Model guns worldwide has been "TEMPORARILY closed due to family illness" for about two years now...

:undecided

It's a shame since the layout of their site is great and they seem to have (had?) the best assortment of guns that I've come across, a lot of which I haven't been able to find anyplace else (shotguns and rifles mostly).

So far, I've bought all my PFC guns from gunbroker.com. But I'll be getting two of the silenced Uzis from the second site you listed in the next few months and probably another couple revolvers from http://plugfirecapgunsuk.com/Western_Models.html before I do my short western this fall.

If you go the PFC route get a simple gun cleaning kit to maintain them. The chemicals in the caps eats away at the plastic and glue. These things are too expensive to not take care of.

Sweet.

Hey Doc -- so for my futuristic traditional ammo-firing pistol (not sure whether it will be the blank fire, a PFC or airsoft), I was thinking about putting this rail on and then modding it with an upside down blade (basically an inverted bayonet with a gun-lenth blade). Can I use this rail on a gun with blowback and ejecting shells?

Also I'm thinking about picking up the Goblin Deuce to mod with tin plating, leather and brushed finish to work as my futuristic weapon. Looks like decent plastic construction, and I really want that break-open loading for a steampunk feel. Additionally, when I blast off a paint ball it'll give the actor something to feel leaving the chamber while giving me something to physically track in AE.

Yes, as long as they can accept the rail.

Be careful about firing anything on set. Set it up to fire with no "ammo". I would feel a lot better about it. But yeah, I get the steampunk feel from that goblin. Can't wait to see it finished.

Whoa! Just got the blank fire gun in and it...is...terrifying. LOL

I couldn't find any decent video of it firing online, once I get some blanks and get it checked out I'll post.

I did find a Kimar firing online, though alongside some front barrel flash guns.

I just melted when I watched the first one on auto mode. lol
