Hello,

I am inquiring about traveling on an airplane, most likely Southwest, with gear such as 15mm rods, a baseplate or two, and a few monitor arms.
I will be flying from Denver to Boston to shoot an interview in about two months time.
I will be taking a few canon dslrs and a smallhd dp6, a sd mixpre-d and a marantz pmd-661, sony ecm-44, and a few other mics...
I know all of this will be able to be in my carry-on but I am unsure regarding my gini baseplate, a few 15mm rods and a monitor arms and some short xlr cables.
I have conducted Various searches throughout the web and on here almost imply that one can have all of such in the carry-on with the camera and lenses and the tsa will have no issue with such.
I have a pelican 1510 which I am considering on taking either as carry-on or as checked luggage with a flaregun so I can lock it.
I have a dslr/laptop bag, tamrac, which could accommodate some gear.
I would like to take my miller solo legs and miller tripod head, as well, but I am uneasy regarding the checked baggage.

Any suggestions, insights, condemnations?

and, yes, I tried my best to make sure I began every sentence with "I". :Drogar-Happy(DBG):

Thank you to any and all for your input that you may have.

That the TSA will have no issue is nonsense. It will depend on the individual checking your bag and the xray person and so on. Pack what you need to carry on to be able to work when you get off the plane if you checked luggage gets lost. Get to the airport very damn early, have documentation from a client or something that describes what you are doing and where you are going. Be prepared to be asked questions, answer politely and don't loose your patience. Have a back up plan and as for the flare gun...why don\t you ship it ahead via ups or fedex. People in airport are very nervous these days and I don't blame them.
I travel often and always get checked and most times have no problems but a smile and honest answers are the key. Informing people of your rights etc. is a waste of time.

Thank you for the reply...I honestly forgot I posted this at all.
I will certainly arrive earlier to the airport for the security song and dance...I usually experience a fair bit of extra inspection when going through airport security, regardless of what's in my carry-on or how I dress...I'm fairly certain the TSA just like patting my butt.
Thanks again.

You can never tell - I had sticky pod plates, arms, knuckle joints, walkie talkies (which were on UK frequencies, not US), chargers, mains cables and adaptors between UK/US sockets. My laptop bag had all sorts of strange things in it with wires too. I had no trouble whatsoever going to San Francisco on Virgin - and discovered on arrival that in my latop bag side pocket was a weatherman, in it's pouch, and nobody even noticed. If they had, I reckon I'd have been for it!
