AIFF Audio prob... Help!

I'm having the strangest problem today.

Pristine music plays fine in the Viewer window, and in the Finder. Clear as day.

But when it's dropped on the timeline the same song studders as it plays.

I've moved the music files to a different hard drive but they still studder in the timeline. They're all stereo 48k AIFF audio files. This matches my 720p/ 24 fps DVCPRO-HD timeline settings.

Any thoughts?

Thanksssssss!

Are you 100% sure it's 48/16? Are you getting the warning beeps from FCP? What's the timeline context (are there many other audio streams being mixed, many video streams...)

Thanks ullanta,

Yes, sure it's 48/16. I'm not getting beeps to render either.

I'm editing on a very basic timeline; one track of video and a stereo audio track.

Funny thing--

I'm now experiencing smooth playback off of the FireWire400 connected hard drive, but only when picture and sound overlap. That is to say when the playhead passes over just the audio track with no video above, audio studders. But when there's video present things are smooth.

I think an FCP setting may be the culpret, as I've been using (but not filling up) the hard drive on other 720p DVCPRO-HD projects.

Thanks ullanta,

Yes, any video that sits above any audio on the timeline plays studder-free. Right now I have video plopped on the timeline with large gaps in between some clips. The audio plays smoothly when the timeline indicator moves over video. The audio cuts out and studders when the indicator moves over timeline that has no video in it.

I am monitoring audio thru closed-ear headphones, and picture using a single computer monitor setup.

Yikes! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Andrew -

What I mean is, are you monitoring directly withthe computer monitor/built-in audio, or through some other hardware? And what are your "View" settings ("audio follows video", etc)... I wonder if there's some audio/video sync issue...

If worst comes to worst, and it only happens in this one project, can you just drop slugs over the gaps?
