Ahhhhhh layer problem

Hi guys hope you can help as Im having a real tough time with this at the moment.

Okay here goes, I am doing a music video for a friend and Im trying to be a little creative. I have 3 different footages that I want to put together to make it look like a memory in one visual.

So I take say 3 seconds of each 3 clips, I crop them and divide the screen fitting all three images on the screen and I freeze frame the last image on each clip for 5 seconds or so. When one clip has finished the next clip on same screen appears whilst the previous clip goes to a freeze frame mode and so forth. Whilst in freeze frame I then duplicate the clip and have a sin city look where it slowley fades to black and white whilst keeping one image in colour. Great no problems. But when I do the same to the second, it seems to conflict with the first making the first clip disappear completely and so forth with the third clip. I cant figure out why. I have attached example of this. Im running FCP studio 6 HD

hope you guys can help. They seem to when I render it. Before render all three clips are present. dont make sense to me.

Example:

first clip:

Second clip whilst first clip changes colour:
Picture2-6.png

Third Clip whilst second clip changes colour:
Picture3-1.png

Third clip after renders complete

1st and 2nd image has disappeared, time frame view after render:

Before 3 images render and what I want:

Time frame before render:

Hope you can help as Ive been playing for hours on this sodding clip

seems to be when I try and colour change the 3rd clip using colour 3 way to keep lilly colour in but everything else black and white thats when the first two clips disappear. If I make the 3rd clip just black and white then all three clips are fine. Is this something to do with graphic card?

Just as something to try- What about using a fade transition and cut off the clip, rather than using an opacity change in the timeline? That way, you'll only have 3 clips running instead of 6.

It also looks like you're only moving the 3rd clip over and not cropping it? What if you give it a little crop on the left side?

If none of these work, I would say export the first two as one clip, import the new clip and add the 3rd.

Sounds like a bug.

Hi Tim thanks for response, third clip is cropped ill try cropping a little more and see if I can run 3 clips instead of 6 perhaps that may resolve it ill post up if it works or not cheers

Okay, I tried running 3 clips running instead of 6 by fade transition instead of opacity change on 6 clips, didnt work.

Then I exported first two clips as one then imported again and ran third clip above and same thing happened again.

Its seems to do it as I go to change the colour of the scene to black and white and keep flower yellow on third clip. If I have them all going to black and white then they all stay there, only happens when I select the flower in the third clip in colour corrector 3 way does the first two clips disappear. Would upgrading to fcp 7 fix this?

Tim you are a star mate why didnt I think of that yes it works at first I thought nope but then I forgot had to recrop the third image as the black background would of rasterized itself with the cropped image. Works a treat, just annoying having to export then reimport every layered clip to get this effect. You think it could be a bug or maybe something to do with the order in which it is layered in maybe creates a conflict of some sort
