Ahhhhh! I Need To Find Roads In California!

I need to find scenic Midwestern type roads close to LA to shoot on. Where do I look? If no one knows, can someone recommend a cheap location scout who can help.

haha zack, i'll look for some pictures and post them later. gotta run to work. think farmland and/or forest on either side of the road. as little desert and mountains as possible.
 
maybe this is too far for you, but take hwy 5 north, towards bakersfield and you may find some possibiliities. i don't know anything exactly, but there is some agro, dirt, weed all over there.
 
check out thousand oaks...i think there is an area called hidden valley or something...they shoot lots of car commercials there...i would say head more towards calabasas/ventura county. west san fernado valley as well.

Larry, have you used that service? I've tried it and searching can be quite adventorous. You'll press the search button, after entering the values, and it'll just go right back to the same page. i don't know if it's saying 'we can't find anything within that criteria' or it's just refereshing. My criteria is very general, so I can't see why it wouldn't be able to find any results.

Is there a trick to this site? Am I missing something?
 
Also try going up Topanga Canyon Road (from the Valley) until you get up into the hills. There are some neat roads up that way. Another possibility would be to go the opposite direction, from the valley toward Malibu, like on Los Virgenes Rd or some of the offshoot roads through there. Those are also pretty neat.
 
yea, all that, and wait till after it rains, suddenly it won't look so brown, er golden, anymore.
