I can't figure this out for the life of me! I really need some help please, I am begging!
I posted before and searched but can't figure this out...

I rendered a 5:30 SD project shot with the HVX... 24fps (2-3-3-2 pull) but it was a while back... it was one of my first renders so when I saw the quality and the file size I said to myself "oh, that was easy" but ever since I have not been able to duplicate the results... I got a crisp image when blown up full screen on a 17" monitor and the file size is ony 311MB exactly what I need... since it was rendered as a .mov I tried "none", motion Jpeg A and B, mpeg 4, both Sorensons, video... I also tried others a while back but I can'te remember...
 
coud anyone share their own preffered format for showcasing material from the hard drive of a laptop?
 
Windows Media. Much better quality for the filesize. And since it's on your own machine, you don't have to worry about playability.
 
It looks good, but not as good... I don't understand how there could be such a nice rendering setting on something as popular as QT and you guys don't know it off the top of your head. How's that David? Or are not all renderings going to be exactly the same based on the settings? Are there other things that affect size and quality besides the originl codec and the rendering settings that I am not aware of?
 
I personally dislike Quicktime, so I don't work with it all that much.

But yes, differences in video make differences in the render. Especially if the format is interframe -- differences in amounts of motion will make a big difference. If there isn't as much motion, there isn't as much info to be included, and the file size will be smaller. Same can be true of color characteristics, etc..

Also, audio quality can impact file size.
 
using Vegs explorer highlight your old QT and it should tell you the media size ( 640x480 or 320x240) and if you used sorensen or mepg4/H264 codec or other codec ...

drop your old QT in Vegas TL - go to media pool ( details) - it will tell you the bit rate

if it doesn't give you the codec then perhpoas you just rendered as QT and used the drop down template menu and choose 1Mbs or 3Mbs bit rate ?
 
I am beat but thank you for the replies, I rendered some really nice looking Windows Media versions... those can do the trick... I bumped up the qualiti from 90% to 100%... very small at only 221MB! Very nice looking too
I will try dropping the QT into Vegas like you said as soon as I can, thank you guys!
