AGDVX100a Camera Mount for Sennheiser MKH-60 ???

Hey DVXers,

I've got a AG DVX100a I've been using since last Fall (and loving it)... and a Sennheiser MKH-60 short gun mic. I had been using the camera's standard mic adapter that came with it to mount my Sennheiser. It had been working alright but seemed to be an extremely tight fit. Now the plastic joint on my adapter has given way and snapped and I am all-together without a mic adapter.

Does anyone else here mount a Sennheiser MKH-60 onto their AG DVX100a? What do you use to do so? Where would you buy this "specialty item"?? I've searched all over the place and had no luck.

Come on... no body with an Ag DVX100 uses a MKH 60?
Mounted on the camera??? I hope not. :) That's a huge waste of a quality mic.

JK...well not really. :)

"Mounted on the camera??? I hope not. That's a huge waste of a quality mic."

Then what would you recommend for the best on-camera mic experience (for documentary run and gun interviews)???? I've already got the MKH 60 by the way. Why a waste? I mean I know it's probably best on a boom but... a waste? Compared to what?

Thanks thisiswells for the Sanken suggestion but I can't shell out the bucks for another expensive mic right now. I was trying to figure out the best way to "hybrid" my MKH 60 to the Ag DVX100a for some serious "single-man show" stuff. I'll have no crew this time so it's a "make the best of what you've got" situation, you know?

Still, I don't think this shoulsd be too rough.

It's all good. The Sennheiser is a rockin microphone. The reason I never bought a Sanken CS-1 is cause, well, I don't find myself in a position where I need a mic that small very often and the problem having with tools you don't use is just that.

yes, the K-Tek is a better mount than the AT. I tried the AT a couple of years ago and currently own the K-SM for my shorter boom pole (K81-KCC) and I love it to pieces. It holds my microphones better than the AT did, at least on the end of a pole and I feel it would be just as good when mounted to a camera. Mine is much, much quieter than this Rycote two point suspension/windshield thing....

Manfred Klemme (the "K" in K-Tek) has an Academy Award for technical achievement. If that doesn't convince you it's better then I don't know what will. Is it worth the additional spend? I think so, but it's not my personal money on the line... So, it's easier for me to say that. Ya know!?

Audio-Technica 3760057 Camera Shoe Mount Adapter "?
I recommended that one to a church video department last fall. They bought it along with the same AT shock mount you have and appear generally content (I haven't heard any complaints). Of course, they've never used anything else for comparison.... and, they use a ME-66 (yuck!) But, I think it's good, well built, affordable, or otherwise I would not have recommended it.

Sorry Jeremy, I was just being glib. I was saying you have a great mic and it seems a waste to put such a fine mic on camera. Other then the shortest factor Wells mentions, the MKH is pretty much the best short shotgun you can get (IMHO).

The whole idea of putting a mic on camera to capture dialog is just not kosher. Plenty of people do it, but just not in the professional broadcast world. Since that whole thing is unrelated to your original question, it's just a moot point.

Cheers

Jeremy,

I've been using the Beyerdynamic for the last 6 months and I think is great.
Cheap, light and efficient.
The other rig you asked about is very, very heavy for this kind of usage. Is recommended for studio set-ups.
We just shot 175 hours for a documentary with the Beyer mount and worked great.

Thanks for the tip. Although, I'm a bit confused. What "heavy rig" are you talking about? If you mean the difference between the Beyer mount and the audio-technica mount ... I don't get it? I've already got the audio-technica shock mount which is extremely light weight... so why buy another, cheaper shock mount over simply a shoe-adapter?

The bands on the K-tek are more rigid (i.e. - mic stays in place better) One potential "upgrade" you can get for the AT are the K-Tek KSUS rubber bands since they are more sturdy and hold the mic better for about $20 or so. Hope this helps. Oh, Here's the links:
