AGDVC80

I have a 100A and I'm interested in an "80" as a second camera. It seems like a somewhat elusive creature to find. I'm not confident about ebay, where I tracked one recently that went for around 1800+. So does anyone have any suggestions about where to find one? And while you're at it, feel free to comment on the camera in general. Thanks

Re: AGDVC80

They don't make them anymore I believe. It was basically like the DVC30, but I don't remember what the difference was between the two. I think the DVC80 was basically the DVX100 without 24p. Not even 40% sure on this one. But I know that it isn't being made anymore.

Re: AGDVC80

Yes they're discontinued but I'm trying to find a used one with low mileage. It just seems like they don't show up on the "pre-owned" market too often. I guess people are hanging onto them.

Re: AGDVC80

nope it was a dvx 100 with features disabled...

1/3rd 3ccd's XLR connectors GREAT CAMERA

You can get one for $2500 online at a store might be a refurb

That is one of Panasonics jewels, for the money it was superb, they took it off the market because dealers started selling it for way below msrp...

If you can find them for $1500-2200 tell me :)

Re: AGDVC80

I have one an I absolutely love it. I think I was one of the last few to buy 3 brand new from B&H Photo for $2400.oo.

The "insider" reason of why they did away with the camera was that it was starting to cut into the sales of the DVX-100. People where figuring out that they could get a great camera without the 24P...take the image into FCP or Avid...change the frame rate and add Magic Bullet...and violá...almost (if not exact) DVX100 looking image footage.

If you could get one it is a great complimentary camera to the DVX100

Re: AGDVC80

oh...i forgot...thats why they came out with the DVC30....it added a big buffer between models and features.

Re: AGDVC80

Interesting look there Super 8. I would love to have an 80 as a 2nd to the 100A so the search continues. A guy at my work just told me he would sell his 100A with 25 hours on it for 2900. Whadya think?

Re: AGDVC80

Heck.if that is what you are going to pay then I'll sell you one of mine!

I personally think it is too much. He must sense that you really want one. I mean..for $400.oo more you could get a brand new DVX100A....for $2900 youcouldprobably find a used DVX100 (first generation0

not much of a deal..personally. If I were to sell I think I would sell one of my used low hours one for no more than $2200.oo...

Look around..you could find one.

Re: AGDVC80

I think he just wants to see if he can get top $ for his 100A. I told him I wouldn't pay that much. Like you said I could get a new one for really not that much more. I'm not desperate. I can always rent.

Super8

Since you were replying I clicked on your website. Nice demo. I'm at the beginning stages of setting up a production outfit and someday I'd like to be working with corporate clients. Got a long ways to go though. Is your background in video/film or marketing?

Re: AGDVC80

Hey Markus:

my background is video. I've had a lot of training in film by just playing with the format. Started with Super8...which I love..and moved on up to other formats.

There is a lot of work in the corporate world. You just have to spend your time calling the right people. You can waste a lot of time calling around companies trying to get some work and never get anywhere. My advice? Go directly to the marketing department. They will use you alot..believe me. If they never used video before...find a way of getting them started...even if you have to whore yourself out the first time. Video is like a drug...once they taste it they want it more and more...plus it make the marketing directors looks like stars withing their own company.

One last advice.....never try to be what you are not. A lot of people fake it...they try to project something which they are not. You do not have to make and excuse for not having a decked out office or editing with Avids or shooting Digital Betacam or HD. It's kind like having a girlfriend. She has to like you for what you are and what you can provide...if she doesn't like you for that...then you dont want her. Same goes for video and clients...Clients have to like you for your work and service...yet if all they are focused is on the format you shoot or what you edit or what have you...then you dont want them as clients. they will end being a pain in the a**.

If you have any questions feel free to shoot me an email.

Take care

Super8

Wise words! I'll be taking you up on your offer of emailing with a question or two. When I've got a little mileage behind me I'll be approaching marketing depts. as you suggest.

Thanks

You could probably find a used DVX100 (original) for under $2K.
