CAMCORDERS: AG-HVX200 Capture Capability

Hi Gang

I have an HVX200 and would like to capture (or) import HD contents of the P2 card into my PC Editing Program (not my Mac). In order to edit in Final Cut, my understanding is that I'd need at least Mac OS® X 10.5.8 (Leopard) in order to see/recognize the P2.

I don't have my Mac set up fpr that. So yes I'd like to capture (or) import HD contents from the P2 card into my PC Editing Program. As long as my PC program recognizes the file, has anyone tried editing with a PC (using a FW cable connected to a PC)? Or is there a more appropriate cable for HD? I noticed other ports on the camera but I'm not familiar with them?

Thank You

Look at page 14 of this link.

I never owned an HVX200, but doesn't it write DVCPRO files in MOV containers onto the P2 cards?
Can't you transfer the clips off the P2 card onto a HDD with a P2 card reader?

I've got an AJ-PCS060G - which is a portable hard disk unit for P2 cards lying around... that literally I set out a week ago, going thru stuff I don't use anymore and was planning to sell. It connects to computer via USB 2.0.
Used to use it with my 2 HVX200's to dump footage onto it - for shoots - back when 16gb were big P2 cards.
Not 100% sure that solves your issue... but if you're interested - shoot me a PM with a reasonable offer... it could use a good new home...

Hi there Imana & mark

Thank you BOTH for your comments ...

BTW, a current drawback is that the HVX200 video files are written as 'DVC Pro 50' only which may not be compatible in my current video editor MEP Plus? They may have be to be converted (still working on that). From what I've read those files are separated.

As for the READER, I've seen several types on ebay. Is there an email link on my profile? Could you send me a few photos? From my understanding, (since this is older technology), the transfer speed is only UBS 2.0 Correct? Yes those cards are large P2 cards still available on ebay, but expensive; (compared to SD cards).

Thank You!

Will respond to your message as well... but here's a link to photos:

I still have the manual, as well as the power cable to use with the original battery charger for HVX200. I had to dig thru all my all cables - as the fitting inside the USB 2.0 hub isn't the standard A size. But I did find one that fits.
When I put one of my old HVX batteries on it and turned it on - it started right up. Then I just hooked it up to my 2019 iMac and turned it on (without a P2 card inside). It instantly showed up as external drive "No Name" and the Contents folder and last clip.txt files show up. (this is more than a reader - it's a portable storage drive for P2 cards.)

Clicking thru the video folder lets me preview the last shoot I backed up on this drive. Took me back about 12 years in a flash.

I also tested putting a p2 card (still have a couple 4gb & 16gb cards) inside the slot... while it was hooked up via USB. And that then showed up as another No Name external drive - and allowed me to click inside folder to see clips, etc.

Was a life-saver back when digital media started for me.

Again, from your original post - it sounds like you are still using old PC. So no idea - if this is a solution to your issue.

Hi there Mark

Great photos of your AJ-PCS060G and thank you for sending them. :) I'm not tied to my PC's, (I do have a few older Mac G5's with Final Cut), but haven't used them in years. I'd have to beef them up with Lion OS to get compatibility to use P2 cards etc. For much lower cost, (and familiarity), was able to put together two very FAST PC's> Dell Precision Work Stations 3620's - i7 7700K 4.20 GHz Processor - 32GB RAM with W10 Pro. Yes I realize I'm still dealing with antiquated technology (with the HVX200), but AMAZED at the high RESALE value of the old P2 cards on Ebay! Its the camera's professional appearance with many Pro Features and yet it sat here unused for obvious reasons. So, (without going broke on a current 4K model), I'm still experimenting with those files, trying to convert them to work within W10 Pro. We'll see?

EnigmaCode - I've left Windows ecosystem many years ago... and never plan to go back.
Best of luck to you!

Hey Mark (or anyone)

Would use of the adapter card AJ-P2M064AG, P2, AJ-P2AD1G convert the video file to a more universally accepted file format. Or would it unpackage the dual folder issue into ONE video file?

SAMPLE ADAPTER

Thank You
