I've been looking to buy a camcorder and basically can't decide between the AG-DVX100B or the Sony FX-1. Which one is the better camcorder?

i asked mysefl the same question a whiel back.

my friend got the sony
i got the dvx, im happy i went with the dvx.

Not really at the point in computer stats to run HD rendering or footage for that matter. and i get 24p.

Read The Shootout that's on the site. That's what totally convinced me to get a DVX. I was 95% sure about the FX1 until I read it. I had used the FX1 and, well, the DVX (IMO) trumps it big time. Hope this helps.

i have tried the FX1
problem with fx 1 is that the audio is inferior to dvx.
firstly its not a for broadcast, as is only a prosumer camera.
z1 is a better choice.
comparing to dvx. it can shoot in hdv .

If you want 60i HD material take the fx1

If you want 24P SD get the DVX.

If you only tend to go to DVD there is no need for anything else then SD.

you might want to ask yourself,
the main purpose for your camera.
comparing for progressive, only two recommendation
dvx or xl2
for short film, dvx is definitely the winner.
for wedding and event, xl2 standout as a shoulder mount and showman ship
plus the 10x lense.
comparing sd and hd
are different.
if you need to compare, hvx 200 with z1
is a better comparision.
if you have bugdet concern,
you need to ask yourself whether can your system support
hdv editing or hd editing.
i think the best thing to do .
before you even think of hdv or hd.
is to rent one and try it out on your current
system and software.
sd is still the safer to go for this year.
instand hd is up for the sd.
a software that can process sd to hd .
have yet to try it out.
but i believe that there will be software coming out.
after hdv is not a very good codec as compare
to dvcprohd50.
you might want to find out more.

I don't remember who said it before but its kind of a tainted perspective on this forum... it is called DVXuser....

How so? I'm sure a lot of people chose this camera AFTER research and testing. I know that I'm one of them. If the FX1 were better, I'd be on FX1user.com (I doubt there's on but you get my drift). It isn't, so here I am.

I completely agree with you, I was looking at a bunch of different camera's before I chose the 100b, it's just this site is based (in general) around the DVX camera so people here will have nothing but praise...

Well i bought my cam before the xl2 and fx1 but i havnt regretted my discision.

But i still think that the dvx gamma is the best. So the combination of 24P/25P cinegamma and cinecolor gives the dvx a great picture right of the box.

Sure the lack of true 16:9 is a drawback but resolution dont do the picture alone. As all you guys with 2 megapixel cell phones would agree. ;)
