AFTRA Talent Question

Hey hey,

I wasn't sure where to file this question, so I thought I'd throw it up here.

I'm shooting some footage for a spec pilot project. One of the actors that I wanted to use is a member of AFTRA. This is a non-paying, 0 dollar budget project and I know nothing about the in's and out's of AFTRA. What sort of permission does one need to use a project like this considering it will not be distributed and is only being used for a pitch? Does anyone know of a good internet resource for finding out info on union requirements? I was searching the AFTRA website, but was having trouble getting to the bottom of my question.

Thanks a bunch!

Mike

I'm thinking they aren't suppossed to? What do I know.

This guy has an Agent or Manager, right? Would they know or be able to advise?

Someone in AFTRA should know whether they are "allowed" to work for free. Right? I mean...they were paying attention when they signed up, right?

Anyway, they should have the same sort of deal as SAG...where the talent can work for free on certain things, or work deferred payment (even if deferred until doomsday).

Just be thankful you're not dealing with an Equity person. That guild is just crazy.

Dan,

I guess that's true. I'd just hate to get in trouble because the talent didn't know the rules.

Mike
Why would you be in trouble? What are they going to do to you, fire you?
