After wiping the tears away I post this.

My mom recently celebrated her 3rd year of remission a few months ago, but yesterday quietly gave me news that she's losing weight again. Cancer is the one thing that reminds me that, no matter how hard a person tries or how good they are, sometimes it doesn't matter. Sometimes you die anyways, and it's a long, painful, torturous death that just isn't fair. But it also is the one thing that reminds me that in spite of all that, you must keep your head up and try your best anyways.

That's so sad.
Losing someone suddenly is terrible, but knowing for so long you have to face that...
The grief of a mother for her child is a terrible thing to see. Next week will be the 9th anniversary of my sister's death, and it is still a horrible time for us.
My thoughts go out to the family.

It really puts the silly little things in life into perspective though, doesn't it?
A very moving piece of photojournalism.

It sure does. My thoughts are with your mother MrWrong and of course you. My father died of cancer when I was young. People dont often realise there are two sides to cancer, the suffering of the victim and their families, and the financial loss when a family throws every cent (even with insurance) at any chance of hope.

What's to say. There should be a word for perspective gained from tragic circumstances but I can't think of any.

Appreciate life.

My heart goes out to the mother of Derek and to every family who has fought (and are still fighting) the same battle.

I too suffer from a brain tumor it is not cancerous but it does have a big impact on my life its hard getting healthcare and my medicine is $28.00 a pill so I know how finacialy tough it can get. My heart goes out to ANY family dealing with a health crisis.

Thanks you guys.

For a lot of people who are dealing with situations like this, everyone asks how they deal with it - but you don't, really. You just get by. When things are out of control, you do the only thing you can and concentrate on the things you CAN control. When I get news like this, I write and work on screenplays. Go out and film.

There are things that will always be out of someone's control, and it's useless to fight them, it's like pissing in the wind. So you focus on what you can. Tell your loved ones just how much you love them. Spend time with them. And focus on what is within your control to make you feel like you're doing something other than getting swept away. We're all in the same big river, it's just the difference between swimming against the current or with it.
