I hace to put some clips in afterFX but my whole project is in vegas. WHat are my options?

When I render a clip uncompressed it is a couple gigs for minute (or maybe more).

Since they are just clips, should I put in the afterFX first before vegas then render to what? If I render Dv won't I lose qualiy? ANy suggestions?

Also what about the debug frameserver.

http://www.debugmode.com/frameserver/

It works with vegas and premiere pro. Maybe do my after FX clip in Premiere using after FX plug-ins. Then render to the debug frameserver and movie it to vegas.? Would I lose less quality that way?

Uncommpressed video is is just to much for my harddrive and computer, it would be so slow. I'm just trying to figure out what my alternatives are. Maybe you guys had some suggestions.

Thanks alot. I love this forum , Vegas and my DVX!!! You guys, especially Jared, are so nice and helpful.

Re: After FX and Vegas

Not exactly sure I'm following you, but if you have clips in Vegas you need to take into after effects, render just that clip or portion of the clip to uncompressed, do your thing in ae ,render back out of ae to uncompressed.drop into vegas.

Re: After FX and Vegas

I've used the frameserver and it works great for me. It is, to my knowledge, rendering full uncompressed frames. The only thing is that you have to wait for Vegas to render the frames as they're sent, so realtime editing is no possible.

Re: After FX and Vegas

Consider using sequential TGA files to AE. Faster and equivalent quality to uncompressed, it's smaller, and AE eats em' right up.
Frameserving works great as an intermediary as well, but for most work, I use Seq TGA.
Access it via your Quicktime codecs, you'll see it in the dropdown options. Render a short segment, see what you think.

Re: After FX and Vegas

If I'm dealing with a lot of footage with Vegas and AE I'll typically render out of Vegas uncompressed and then render out of AE in DV back into Vegas. My thinking is I want the highest quality to work with in AE, but when going back into Vegas it's going to end up being DV in the end. Since Vegas does a pure copy with DV footage (as long as you aren't adding effects, fades, etc.) , you're not losing anything by rendering out in DV from AE unless you are adding stuff to it in Vegas.

If it's small clips I'm dealing with, I'll keep it all uncompressed, but for the larger stuff that's what I usually do.
