After Effects Write On

I am working on a small piece and am curious about something.
I have a shot of some guitar playing, but then the music gets somber and their are vector-like vines taking over the guitar.

I would normally just lay down the photoshop layers and write on the vines in After Effects and so on but the guitar shifts slightly. Is there a way where I can isolate the guitars movement to synch with the vines being written on?

Here is a picture:

Was the question clear?

Thanks

not sure if i get what you're doing but if you're saying you want to comp some animated graphic onto the guitar, then just motion track the guitar and lock your graphic layer to that data..

or if that's not what you're after, elaborate a bit. what sort of vines? like the ones in evolution?

Exactly. The graphic is going to be animated onto the guitar. They are black and are going to creep from the black areas of the frame surrounding the guitar.

I will look into how to motion track the guitar. Any suggestions?

ya. you will want to do a 2 point track. definitely position and rotation and maybe scale as well depending on how much the guitar moves in the shot. pick high contrast areas to track. the top edges of the frets look pretty good. track it, create a new null, apply the tracking data to the null. then when you bring in the vines, put them on top of the guitar and adjust scale, etc. to get it how you want it. then lock the vines layer to the null by parenting it. now your vines are locked to the guitar like glue. you will probably need to draw masks if the vines hang off the edge of the guitar or if objects in the foreground pass thru the vines. you will likely have some manual keyframing of the masks.

if you are brand new to motion tracking etc. i would hit videocopilot.net for some kickass free tutorials on the subject.

what you are trying to do isn't really that difficult but there are some steps to do it right...
