After effects workflow SOS

Anyone got a link to an easy tutorial that gives one the overall view of the workflow. For example: Photoshop I can get my head around because it's all layers like cell animation or the old way of creating overhead tranparencies, Premiere is a linear process for left to right with layes kind of like photoshop with motion. Director is both linear and layers with the ability to tell the playhead what part of the timeline to access and when. After effects is....There is where I fall down, I can't get my stupid brain around the workflow. I would so much like to figure this out because I've seen so much great work done with this package and I know I'm gonna rock when I get the mental workflow image burned into my cranium. Any thoughts, pointers or otherwise helpful advise on this ramble would be sooooo apreciated

Re: After effects workflow SOS

hmm workflow description for AE. after effects is like photoshop and premiere pro combined . the timline goes from left to right and you assemble your footage or assets in layers and set the blending properties and use layer masks and so on like in photoshop. then from left to right you add effects, and keyframe the effects or properties of your layers to change over time left to right on the timeline.

so its basically like making a photoshop composite image but you use keyframes to change things over time on the timeline. layers can also include motion graphics such as video or animation.
