After Effects, Final Cut Pro, HVX200 debacle

Hi, this is my first post on this forum and it's a bit of a doozy, if this has already been covered here just let me know where to look and I'd greatly appreciated.

Anyhow.

So, I'm taking a little "intro to motion graphics class" being taught in the area, and for the final project I rented an HVX200 and some lights and what not. I shot on P2 cards at 720pN, I've imported all my footage into FCP 5 and manually copied it to my hard drive and everything looks great.

I exported a clip out of Final Cut Pro to bring into After Effects to do some nonsense in there and disaster strikes.

The thing previews fine in Quicktime

Just fine in Final Cut

and even just fine if i double click it to play in AE without dragging it into a comp

I noticed when I open the file in Quicktime Pro and try to export as a quicktime movie in the DVCPRO HD 720p60 format i get the same problem showing up as a preview.

Since I'm new to dealing with HD footage and progressive scan and pulldown and all sorts of other nonsense I've gone ahead and taken screen grabs of all my project and comp settings in both FCP and AE.

i think the footage is sort of messed up at some point, when i preview the files that Final Cut makes in the capture scratch they fine.

But when it previews in Coverflow it has the same problem AE does.

but when i hit spacebar to play with quicklook it looks fine

I updated AE so i'm able to import the .MXF files directly, but now i'm just confused what's going on with FCP. If anyone knows what's going on i'd be interested to know. When I imported a file that is almost a minute and a half long AE only sees it being 38 seconds long. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks.
