After Effects as a compressor, as good as Compressor?

I'm doing some final color timing of a 720P HD video in After Effects Cs3. I'm working fully uncompressed, and when I'm done, I want to convert my video to H.264 in order to play it on Vimeo.com.

My question is, can I just export out of After Effects, or will I get better quality by rendering out uncompressed and then doing the compression conversion in Apple's Compressor or Sorenson Squeeze?

Personally, I have always had an issue with AE exporting as H.264. I would use the compressor. Actually, I use FCP to export h.264 and AE for Animation+

Yeah, I've never really used AE for H264 either. In the first release of CS3 the H264 output module always crashed AE.

I usually export H264 out of QT Pro, much faster.

I've been able to export H.264 out of after effects using the Export function, instead of the normal Make Movie function.

I guess what I'm interested in, is the quality of compression After Effects offers vs. something like Apple's Compressor.

Once I'm done with my color correction in After Effects, I plan on making several versions of the video, optimized for uploading to various websites: vimeo, but also you tube, ifilm, etc. I'd prefer to just make multiple movies out of After Effects, but if the quality is better with a dedicated compression application, then I'd do that instead.

Any thoughts?
