Afm - Next Week

Ok, I've got this film, Smuggler's Ransom. It's 40+ min. I think it's viable in a certain market. Should I go take it to AFM or not? Is it worth the cost of me getting in? And speaking of that, what is the cost to get in? Thanks.

AFM is clearly one of the most important distribution shows anywhere. If you have never attended, I would certainly recommend getting a one day pass, its more than worth it.

It's not inexpensive, but well worth the price. Let me know which day(s) you will be there as I will be attending to show support for a few films. Perhaps we can meet up.

I'm not sure which day I'm going. I guess I'll wait to hear when everyone else is going to be there and make it that day...

Thanks for the advice, I think I've decided to go. Now to get my promo stuff done!
Getting promo stuff done will be of no value. If you go to AFM and try to hawk your own wares, they'll throw you out on your ear the first instant that they see you.

A day pass to AFM is to go as an attendee, not a seller. If you want to try to sell your product you have to register as an exhibitor, and you're talking about something like $10,000 to do that.

Really Barry? I know several people who have gone and "hawked their wares" there and have gotten several good contacts and such... Are we thinking of the same place?

I'm talking about the AFM in Santa Monica at the Loew's hotel. Hey, try it if you want, but I'm telling you what they told me -- you show up trying to sell your stuff and you'll get thrown out and blacklisted if they catch you.

AFM Guidelines
indieclub thread the following information came from.

According to AFM rules (#6 on the back of the Exhibition Agreement and Offie Request Form") two exhibitors may share an office. The 2nd exhibitor must submit an exhibition agreement and pay a share fee to the IFTA of $3500 for non-IFTA members of $2000 for IFTA members. If you are not doing it that way then you are breaking AFM rules and can be blacklisted.

BTW it is also a violation of the rules for anyone to sell at movei at AFM who is not an exhibitor. Filmmakers can try to interest the exhibitors in representing their films in the future, but they really are not allowed to be selling anything.

You might want to look her up and see what she can do for you in the future while you're at AFM. Their myspace and their other one and their website.
