Affordable HD output

Hello All

I did several searches here for info and did not see anything that directly and simply addresses my inquiry. I apologise if this is a redundant Question.

MY question: I want to be able to output to a Sony Bravia HDTV. It can be HDMI, Component, ETC. But I want to get a Real time Hi quality HD preview output. The only thing that I see out there is a Matrox Axio Capture card for around a grand or so. (unless I wanted to use SDI, which I do not) It would be nice If I could do this cheaper and in mass. We have several systems I want to upgrade for PPRo CS3 P2 MXF editing. Is there any affordable way to get an output to my external HD LCD display's

I noticed Nvidia has some video cards with their new "TrueHD" HDMI output ports. If possible, I would prefer to stay in the WinXP OS environment if possible. I have lots of plug-ins that will not work in Vista or a 64 bit OS'ed Box. I dont know if PPRo CS3 will see these cards as an option for output. I think they were the 8000 series cards.

Im editing with PPro CS3, using the latest patch for native editing of My P2 MXF SD/HD editing. My choice platform is a PC. Currently, my systems are using WinXPPro with SP2. Intel, Duocore and a couple gigs of Memory. Lots of HDD space. The one system DOES have two SLI slots available. Outside of using a PC, the system I can assemble is somewhat Irrelevent. I can build or upgrade something if this is too slow.

Many Thanks

P.S. I urge caution to sys builders out there using Gygabyte 965P-DS3 mainboards. I found a sincere "What were they Thinking?" Issue with these boards. Though it operated nicely and was stable. The downward spiral of OMG plea's occurs should you lose your BIOS, flash it incorrectly or it becomes corrupt. They park a backup BIOS on your HDD to restore a physical corrupt BIOS with. BUT, if that goes, it is RTV time. They did not make restoring your bios from ANYTHING other than the main OS HDD, an option. When the system does not post, you cannot make it see USB, CD, Floppy's, nothing!. You are in effect, Screwed. Their other boards have several a backup Bios, Options to restore a corrupt bios from and On board backup, Multiple Devices as well as the OS HDD. Im going to post this segment somewhere here on the forum by itself. I dont know what the H#$% they were thinking but in 15 years of building systems, this is perhaps the largest design flaw Ive ever seen. There are posts all over the net complaining about it. Gygabyt has not addressed any other way to fix this outside of RTV'ing the board to them for replacement!?!?

DANGER WILL ROBINSON!!! DANGER!!!

I'm not sure if there is a similar option for PP, but on Apple/FCP you can hook up an HDTV via a $30 display card with DVI out and choose to use it as a "digital cinema preview" for FCP. It's really just another computer monitor, but only used for video playback. Not great for color or other precision work, but for full res playback and preview editing, should be great. Anything like that for PC/PP?

Thanks for the input. I will look into both options. I want to get Hi Res output. would be nice if it were as simple as editing DV25 VIA a firewire transcoder. It would be REALLY NICE if Panasonic would have made this possible with the HVX so you could use the Camcorder as an HD Transcoder.

On the other hand, the additional expenses help seperate us out from everybody and their brother becoming a production company, regardless of experience and qualifications.

IMHO, Thats what killed the wedding industry years ago. If you had a PC and Palmcorder, you were a professional weddding videographer. A few bad apples spoiled it for all the Pros who had to put dinner on their table every night shooting weddings. Im just glad we never entered that market or even tried to. Same thing is happening to the Local Broadcast and Cable TV Commercials industry right now. I think it is doomed in the not too distant future. Maybe HD will save us all.

Thanks
