AF100 On camera shotgun Mic - MIC 150???

I'd hire an audio person for serious projects but for a secondary on camera use to back up primary lavs and shotgun, I'm looking at the Panasonic MIC 150. It would be the primary mic just for mucking around since the AF100 comes with no mic of any sort.

Does anyone have any experience with that or possibly a better suggestion?

In general, these kinds of mics that are made by the camera manufacturer are not so good sounding. One of the reason they're not good sounding is the manufacturer makes them so they'll work in the "microphone clip" that's built into many cameras. The reality is that those microphone clips don't provide enough suspension, so if you put a good sounding shotgun in there, you'll pick up a lot of handling noise.

You'd be much better off with a Rode NTG1 and a Rode SM3 shockmount (and a Rycote softie for wind protection).

You may want to check out the Rode VideoMic Pro; it's aimed at the DSLR market. It would be far more forgiving than a traditional shotgun mic when camera mounted.

for the af100 i'd suggest the ntg-1 as well. i use one on my hmc150 and the on camera shock mount does pretty good. only time i use the rode shockmount is if i've got a fuzzy on it.
