I have some footage that I exported via Adobe Media Encoder (using CS6) and my main settings are as follows:
H.264 Blu-ray
1920x1080
23.976 / progressive
NTSC
Profile: Main
Level: 4.1
Target Bitrate: 20 Mbps
Maximum Bitrate: 25 Mbps
Encore burns these files just fine without requiring re-transencoding. So far so good, but when played in a PS3 (with bitrate info on) the video skips or momentarily freezes when the hits at only around 30 Mbps. If I re-render and burn my video so my max bitrate is around 15 Mbps, this eliminates the issue and everything plays just fine.
What’s so confusing is that the default export settings from Media Encoder for H.264 Blu-ray is target bitrate = 30 and max at 35 and my understanding is that Blu-ray players can peek over 40 Mbps without issue so why is it that video that max around 30 Mbps are skipping and freezing for H.264 video? Does anyone else have this problem?
FYI: My average bitrate for AF100 footage is natively around 20 Mbps so you would think you want to burn to Bluray with that as your “average” bitrate. This is why I encoded and burned with a target at 20 and max at 25.
