AF-100 Wishlist/Suggestion Discussion Thread

I bet you Panasonic took the guy who linked the GH1 sensor to this new camera out behind the barn for a good whoopin'

No matter what gets said about the camera and the new un-named sensor from this point forward; (almost) everyone who reads these boards will still want to link it to the GH1 or possibly the yet to be released (if ever) GH2...

It's all just wild unfounded internet speculation until there is a working prototype later this year. Even then it could all change before we get our hands on it in December.

The way to record to P2, if it isn't included on the camera itself, is through the promised HDSDI connector to an external recorder like the HPG20, which takes AVC-Intra 10-bit or DVCProHD100/50.

for sure that there will be HDSDI connector, but the HPG20 is to much robust for the field and small camcorders, it is not that much mobile to carry around

if will not gonna have a P2 option a least it would be nice to have one firewire connection on it?
AVCHD doesn't transfer over firewire. There's no point to a firewire connection on a modern-codec camcorder. XDCAM-EX, AVC-Intra, AVCHD, XDCAM-MPEG422, Canon's XF300 codec, none of them go across the firewire.

if this cam will gonna have the new GH2 sensor (that "they" announce with global shutter)
Who's "they" who says that the GH2 will have a global shutter? Sounds like a case of someone pulling rumors out of their ... donkey. I do not expect a global shutter.

But what will be the output rez/frame rate? Will it output through HD-SDI the frame rate being recorded on the camera?
That remains to be seen. If it's anything like the other AVCCAM or similarly-priced P2 products, the HD-SDI output will be uncompressed HD at 4:2:2 and embedded within a 720/60p or 1080/60i data stream.

Maybe if this thing is a hit, they will release a more professional version with P2, DVCPRO/AVCINTRA CODECS, Firewire, etc...
That's what I'm lobbying for.

You can use any HD-SDI or HDMI recorder. So, a Ki Pro, a NanoFlash, an HPG20, whatever. It will work with any of them.

That website is pure unprofessonal journalism... When gh2 comes out with no global shutter, you know wholl we be laughing at

well if there will be no global shutter, no pro entry, so what will different this cam from others like Sony NEX-VG10,.... may be I am expecting too much from panasonic?

I just want full hd cam without cmos diseases, shallow dof and with a real codec, is that too much???

the vg10 is an nex5 sensor.. so you could expect moire and aliasing...
also theres a list of features that vg10 wont have.. heres a few
24p
60p
720
variable framerates
waveform
vectorscope
xlr
hdsdi
etc...

now if those arent what you're looking for, get a sony vg10

those have been said in this thread a hundred times. i dont understand why people keep asking. you can probably click anywhere in the thread without those being mentioned

What will make the AF100 different from an NEX? About a million things!

Well, you could buy a Sony F35, that's a full HD camera with no CMOS issues, shallow DOF, and a real codec. It's $350,000 though.

If you want a shallow-DOF HD camera with a CCD chip... well, hmmm.... it might indeed be that the F35 is the only one! All the other big-chip single-sensor video cameras are CMOS, that I can think of off the top of my head.

thanks Barry, I will have that in mind and start saving some money.

I want a 4k cam with full-frame sensor, global shutter, AVC-Intra, and a 22mm-400mm F/1.0 zoom lens for $6000...is that asking too much? :2vrolijk_08:

You know, I almost think that camera is possible to build at close to that price, if the market was structured differently.

Well, with a more realistic lens of course, although I like the way you think!

I want it to be just like the ARRI Alexa, with a full set of Primo Primes, or maybe Cooke S4's. heck I'd even slum with Zeiss standard primes.
I want it to record to cheap throw away media that you can buy at the corner mom and pop store.
I want it in a small light form factor that I can throw in my backpack as I skateboard to my next shoot.
I want low light sensitivity so I don't have to use pro lights and a gaffer, maybe just some worklights from Home Depot.
I want it to be light enough to put on a 4th rate tripod that I can buy on ebay for $10 plus shipping ('cause that's where all the quality equipment can be found)

Oh and I don't know how to pull focus so I want auto focus...

And since my mom cut back on my allowance it has to cost less that $5k!!!

/end sarcasm/

Except for the lens -- which would weigh 50 pounds if an ounce -- the rest (or better) may very well be commonplace on sub-$2K cameras within five years. The lens, which is mechanical and more constrained by the laws of physics, will always be expensive.

Maybe the cheapest option is for a few DVXUsers to pool resources and build a budget time machine. I think building one that can go thousands of years back and forth would be pretty expensive/difficult, but one purpose-built to jump forward five years and buy camcorders seems pretty do-able, right?

It would need a big trunk to hold all those sexy cameras though.
Oh, shoot, and I forgot about inflation. There's a few details to work out I guess.
Maybe one of the Mods can make a new sub-forum for time-machine building???:Drogar-Mark-10(DBG)
