Features I'd like to see:

-1080/60P
-720/120P

-Variable Frame Rates in both 1080 & 720
-False Color exposure control
-Composite video out

1080/60P is already implemented in the HDC-HS700 & HDC-TM700 camcorders so hopefully it should be doable. 720/120P because it's time to hit that next step and incorporating 1080/60P will make 720/60P obsolete.

I haven't seen it covered in this thread but I might have missed it - please make the ergonomics good for hand held shooting without a rig. A box like you showed seems to be awkward, and to be like the RED Scarlet, a cam that must be used with a support rig.

ultimately i would love to have a p2 card slot for the narrative and corporate stuff i do but for event type stuff i need to be able to shoot 8 hours of footage before i have a chance to dump and backup so thats like 10 or 12 16 gig cards.

For event stuff i need to record onto less expensive media.

How about including a p2 card slot and come up with a dummy p2 card with an sd card slot in it (a p2 to sdhc adaptor) and have the camera record ether avc-intra with the p2 card or avchd via the adaptor.

Then everybody's happy

though right now i'm not sure it wouldn't be cheaper in controlled environments to get one of the many hd-sdi or hdmi recording solutions.

Thanks
john

Let's keep it simple people! There are plenty of 1/3" to 2/3" cameras for ENG and events. I don't know why low light is a key? Most of the low budget shorts I worked on had some kind of lighting kit. I mean you can get a couple of soft boxes and a couple of fill lights for a few hundred bucks on Ebay.
THERE IS NO UNIVERSAL CAMERA!!!!

Because this is not only a cinema cam as people will use it for other things.

Because this is not a cinema cam.

Yes it is...

However! People want the cinema look for some things like weddings, etc, and in those situations low light on a cam like this is important.

The GH1 does great low light especially with fast glass so I have no reason to believe this camera will be any different.

For people who only wants a camera for Cinema type work, they may have trouble choosing between this and a Scarlet but what if they want to do both Cinema and ENG work? As long as this is much more ENG friendly, the AF100 will get a higher chance of getting the sale. Not everybody can afford to have more than 1 professional camera.

Low light ability opens up a lot of shooting possibilities for indie film makers. Even if you can afford lights, you probably can't afford a grip truck and insurance to shut down a street with extras at, lets say, downtown Nashville TN at 2:00am on a Saturday. However, with the DSLR's and 3200/6400 ISO I can take an actor and my camera and guerilla shoot what I need to get without the need for lights.

Plus the laws here say you don't need a permit unless your gear touches public property... aka you put sticks down.

First post has been updated (through roughly the first 100 posts of this thread).

I'll update it again in the next few days, as well as add a downloadable list option.
If anyone has any suggestions on how else to organize the list, I'm more than open to it.

I broke it up into categories because we had had issue with the HPX170 list when we wound up removing things... it would throw all the numbering off. This way, I figure, the number of items per category are left to a minimum.

Options can be referred to by their Letter and Number.
So for example, E5 would be "Ability to dial in White Balance in Kelvin"

Luis, the wish list is excelent. some of those features might be difficult to get in this time, but I think the majority is quite acceptable. If the camera included these elements from the wishlist, it would be the end all camera- a RED contender, definitely.

This camera is an inredible opportunity to sell P2 and Panasonic proprietary codec and workflows, as long as it provides the goods. Red makes money with all the Red stuff, from ram, lcd's, etc. This should be a camera that Panasonic should do as a brand pusher, with minimum profits on the body, but gain profits on overall market penetration and raise of brand value. Canon's brand, for example, raised well after the DSLR video revolution.

Hi,

Autofocus (as BG's #41 post) is really important from major lens makers (Nikon and Canon are but two), as well as mainstream Panasonic and other 4/3d's lenses.

But also fitting 16mm C-mount lenses as Dvbrother mentions in #39 would be terrific, especially since there are some great lenses out there that should work for the 4/3ds in movie making that are cheap for shallow DOP-making.

That also makes the case for a built-in body stabilization scheme.

I'll leave it to others for P2 media, but I suspect that SD should be sufficient, and this is from one who has P2 and likes it.

I would like to see an electronic grid composition and horizon for leveling.

The camera could be a game changer for Event folks with is long run time and what features it might have, so some automatic features are important, too.

Reality programming - I've done some Outdoor Channel/Discovery Channel shows - that really needs auto everything sometimes. I don't know if this camera is 'aimed' at that market, but it could be. When the "hunter" is poised to shoot the game, turn off the auto, narrow the DOF to the "hunter" for isolation... Yeah, it would work.
