Fewer features.

What can be done in post (coloring, gamma, etc.) leave off the camera. I would rather have a simpler camera. Some of those old mechanical cameras are works of art.

Such "features" tie up the people making the camera, raise the price, clutter the camera, distract the shooter, bury important controls, and are often re-done in post anyway.

In the field:

1. I must get only this exactly right: focus.

2. I must get pretty close these: exposure, frame rate, and framing.

3. I don't even want to fiddle with this: color correction.

I don't even know how to respond to this.

No.

More features.

Features if poorly implemented can be cluttered and distracting (looking at you Sony,) but Panasonic usually does a great job implementing them.

I second the HD SDI (Ki pro use, other capturing medium's and so on to get a full 4:4:4 color space, 10 bit, and bypass anything anybody has with AVCCAM codec, false color and add in

spot meter (for checking if ur highlights are clipping very quickly), lens metadata information, even if 1st party mounts are required to give you metadata from cooke SI lenses, all the way to your Canon EF lens. Metadata, metadata, metadata.

low light capability at very least = to the 7d, i know solving all the DSLR limitations is going to be wonderful, but if it's just a rehoused GH1 sensor, it also proves a bit unappealing. It needs to be just as good in low light or better than what the cameras are doing now. I have faith that it will because Panny, you guys have proven a 1/3 chipset can be just as good or even better than a 1/2 inch chip, so what you guys do with a 4/3 is gonna be interesting indeed.

flashband correction, either via through post software or something you can do in camera to stream back together rolling shutter artifacts from camera flashes.

Thank you for listening.

120 at 720p and interval recording is a Must.

White balance custom Dial in Kelvin

Dial Wheel for fast menu navigation, like canon

Some more Color Correction tools.

don't know if its possible - Optional CF card slot? -
because its available at high speeds, higher storage and "more rugged and durable to many "in the field" shocks, impacts and accidents".

Or, how about this? ........ In additional to 1080p, how about 2048p? 2k with 1.39:1 aspect ratio?

Well, forget it, this little thing is now getting too.............. BIG. :kali:

i'll take a superior 1080p over a mediocre attempt at 2k anyday. Even Panavision's Genesis, and Thompson Viper cam are "merely" 1080p camera.

all the notions with kelvein, ISO, etc. What people want is this camera to finally not feel like a VIDEO camera anymore, but a REAL FULL Cine style camera, and have it mostly self contained in one unit, giving you some great professional features we are used to getting on a Film set with higher end cameras not having to find ways to make it try to ACT like a Cine camera rather than just being one.

HVX200 was amazing, 35 mm adapters came out, even more amazing, but it became cumbersome, light loss was an issue, and the camera itself was more geared for videography rather than cinematography.

The footage can't look like "really good HD" anymore, first clip you look at the person should be saying, oh what movie is that from?

No NO NO!! we do not want to take away the VriCam grading and set up that give us our lovely looks

we WANT to be able to use the same gamma curves that we have with our P2 Cameras

LCD under the mic( but where is the microphone?) like new Canon xf series.
So you can use the AF 100 on shoulder and you can see the lcd.

Image resolution ( tvl/h) better than Canon 5d, 7D, Panasonic GH1

4:2:2

okay, how about this -- if we can't get p2 for whatever reason, can you just record avc-i or dvcpro-hd (or both) to the sdxc card?

I'd rather have p2 for the reliability and the consistent workflow, but if i can't have it, i'd take avc-i on the sdxc card!

+1

I don't think anyone wants to rob one feature to pay another. As long as we have their ear, I think everyone is trying to strike a realistic balance. We know we can't get everything, so make the list count. Everyone is coming at this with the same intentions.

First question, for me, is intended purpose for the camera. We've got fantastic tools from Panasonic for unscripted production, studio TV, documentary and so on. So, what does the AF-100 represent to you?

I think of one thing - and that's "digital cinema". Jettison all ENG babies with that newsy bathwater. Unless the ENG cameras have a feature that really lends itself to narrative, single-camera style production, that is.

Take present day celluloid film cameras and reverse engineer them to integrate toward a video friendly / file-based workflow.

Great stuff in this list!

GH1 performs just fine lowlight, easily as good as the 7D or the 5D. In fact I find its sharper in low light than the Canons.

Agreed on metadata. We need it.

Lots of good stuff in this thread, I hope they are listening!!! I remember right after the GH1 came out someone posted a photoshopped pic of an HPX170 with a GH1 lens on it....... and that is exactly what this looks like. Lol. Someone gave panny an idea. Someone find that link for me.

My requests:

1. Make sure you fix the JELLO, point #1

2. The best uncompressed HD-SDI out goodness you can give us. You know us tweak heads need it .... its an addiction. (you need it to compete with red, you know it)! This cam will be lacking without it as all the other uncompressed cams are released. This would be better than P2 IMO.

3. BIG and high rez LCD. I see on the mockup plenty of room to increase the size of the LCD. Make it like 6 inches or something.

4. I second the items about auto focus, user settable focus/ zoom points (like my XH-A1).

5. I also second the items about a WAVEFORM monitor.... yes.

6. Yes to ISO settings, lovely. Also, shutter degrees like the HVX (fraction options also).

7. Yes to a color temp Kelvin dial (like my XH-A1). Very handy, one thing missing on my HVX200a.

8. Yes to the ideas about higher frame rates in 1080p (at least up to 60). If not supported by AVCAM then gives us a way to get it out of the HD-SDI port. A hack even if not supported by panny for us tweak heads. I can't say how many times I've used the 2fps hack in my HVX 200a.

9. Remember, more options is better. User adjustable is key. Hacks are nice too.

p.s. I love my HVX 200!

edit: what barry green said about being able to use the sensor in a 2/3 inch mode so we could potentially use this cam as a ENG type cam. I think the s35 reds and such have that option.

Edit2: low light usability is key now too. Great for low budget films.

What I am missing most on the GH1 is one-push auto-focus. So that would be the most important thing on my wishlist for the AF100. And I'm definitely going to purchase one.

looking at some of the wish list I fear that we will make this cam so high end that it looses its appeal to all but the cinema and broadcast crowd.

If possible:
Work with Anton Bauer to get adopter for AB batteries- a kit similat to JVC cams.
Also to keep the cost down offer a camera without HD-SDI, just like with Canon and jet-pack. In addition to keep the cost down please allow to sell body only.

Didnt know there was one, but good idea.

Another thing... Its been said SD slot 1 and 2 will follow on from each other BUT will it be possible to pop slot 1's card out while writing to 2 and put a fresh card in for pretty much unlimited recording back and forward?

Yes. That's how P2 works already, presumably that's how they would implement it here. Even so, a 32GB card would allow for over 3 hours of recording in the best-quality mode, so long recording times won't be an issue either way.
