Aesthetics of editing room

I'm putting together a new suite. I notice most people use a variant of the "L" shaped desk, put in a corner of the room.

What's your opinion on windows (not the PC type) near or in front of the desk. Does it distract you while editing ? Light glare ? Personally I don't like editing in a cave like environment, and inspiration is as important to me as functionality.

So, your opinion on windows ? and what do you do to inspire you, in your editing suite ?

I like a window for sure, but it is hard to escape the cave-look. The windows do have blinds on them most of the time, due to the glare. Even so, I can tell what time of day it is and what the weather is like anyhow. fresh air is cool. colors, I like. not all techy black. I like to leave out equipment, when I can ( lights, audio, etc. just to mess around with so I can look forward to using them someday when I dig myself out of the massive amounts of editing to be done..)

for inspiration..sometimes I turn on the tV. otherwise, tons of books and mags from the library. music inspires me a lot also. and of course, dvxuser.com, i kid..

Before I even painted the suite, I blacked out the windows.
Glare is not cool on monitors, squinting when direct light hits is not cool either.
Sound alone can be a problem with windows, depending on traffic/location. I found blacking them out with black fabric dampened outside noise drasticly.
Aestheticly, it looks better too, imo. I like lamps. I use no overhead lighting. A few lamps here and there make things nice.
No edit suite is complete without at least one lava lamp.

Yeah I got to have it dark. Can't freaking stand the glare. It's nice to have some can lighting on a dimmer where I edit the most, so I can bring it up If I need to.

I prefer track lighting on a dimmer when avaliable. Keep it low while I'm editing. During the edit, give me a cave with mood lighting. When I'm not editing, more light is a must.

haha, yeah the lava lamp rules. I use a deep main table, and a tilted drafting table side- by- side. the tilted table usually restrains massive buildup of clutter.

I like to keep my edit area as clean as possible. One thing I HATE are cables showing. I am guilty of it, and believe me it makes me shudder each time I sit down. I am in the process of revamping my area, which will include a new desk, and believe me, there won't be a rats nest of cables back there....
