AE7 Newbie Help

I just decided to switch to After Effects from Combustion recently. Getting up to speed but having problems with rendering. So here it is:

When I render out my dv footage uncompressed, AfterEffects seems to squeeze my footage and darken it a bit. I tought it might be caused by the pixel aspect but I read that After Effects automatically picks the correct size. Am I missing something?

Also, when I render with audio I get a bunch of jitter in the playback. Has anyone else had these problems?

Maybe I'm just overlooking something simple. Any ideas would be very appreciated. Thank you.

On the comp settings, its easiest to just use the presets (D1, 720x486 29.97, etc). Also, uncompressed DV is kinda an oxymoron, since DV is a compressed format. What codec are you spitting the rendered file out as? Animation?

On the audio problem, are you using any Mp3's in the timeline?

I suggest you start from AE's help, in case you missing something on the process.

For audio do not use MP3 files.

I'm just rendering .avi files from my DVX (after downloading them through Vegas) out again as .avi files after adding some effects. I read that saving them as Targas was better so I tried that as well. Targas seem to maintain there size but still darken the footage just a little bit. It's not the worst thing in the world but I was just wondering why that would happen. As far as the sound issues, whenever I render with audio it still jitters when I output as an .avi.

What setting do you guys usually use when rendering? What really is the best way to render while maintaining the best quality? ? Thank you for your help.

I always render uncompressed or Animation quicktime files, unless there's a specific need (say if it's for an Elvis or Chyron or some other live cg package), and they need a frame sequence as targas or tiffs with an alpha.

If it's just straight video, uncompressed quicktime.
