AE7 - Frame Blending Bug?

I was slowing down some footage and decided to test the different "blend" modes of AE7 to see which preferred. I first tried the default which uses no blending. Next, I tried frame blended mode. Then I tried to mix the two. I put the same clip on top of itself. The top one I used no blending, and the bottom one I used blending. This is where AE starts acting weird on me. The goal was to set the opacity of the top clip to 50%, so I would see a mixture of the two blending modes. Well, whatever the blend mode is on the top clip, seems to be universal for all of the clips. Even if I turn the opacity down to 0% on the top non blended clip, I will still see no-blending on the frameblended clip below it.

Does anybody know why this is? I understand the workaround is to render them out separately, and then mix them. I was just wondering if anybody knew what was going on with AE7 so I could better understand it.

Turn on frame blending for the composition, then in the switches tab for the layer toggle through the states:

/ means pixel motion
\ means frame blend
"off" means none

I hope this helps,

Yep, knew that. I am just wondering how you get different blend modes on seperate layers in the same composition (when one is layered over the other).

So one clip is blending, and the other clip is not blending, etc.
