AE or Combustion for Vagas 6?

I am purchasing a Dell 670 or Alienware workstation soon and there are some bundles available. I will be working with Sony Vegas 6 + DVD and all that, and would like to get some motion effects software. I hope this hasn't been exhausted, but what is better for Vegas, After Effects or Combustion. I will be shooting 24pa with the DVX 100A and 25p with the Sony Z1, separate projects of course, and I will be getting ConnectHD also. We're talking a couple of docs, narrative films, commercials, instructional videos, corporate, you name it, but I want all of it to have the cinematic/professional look. Please help. Need to purchase soon, I mean really this time.

Combustion is more powerful, AE is slightly easier to learn with more resources. Both are excellent. My preference runs to AE.

You may well find that everything you need to do can be done in Vegas.

Bingo!*

*=but if not, I prefer AE. I think they both have trial versions... give them both a run & see what YOU prefer.

what effects do you plan ?
AE does some things easier and Combustion does other things easier ...
i have Both ..use Combustion 80% ... somebody else may use AE 80% ...

beware that when you use DV25 clips outside of Vegas the software will default to using the microsoft dv codec which is NOT 601 spec it operates in 0-255rgb ...
Vegas dv25 codec is 601 spec 16-235 rgb which means that 235rgb is 100ire under 601 spec .. microsoft dv 25 clip will place 255rgb at 100 ire . now bring that clip into vegas and vegas will read that 100 ire ( 255rgb) at 108 ire ... and the microspft dv25 codec will read the Vegas 235( 100 ire) at 94ire ..

IMO microspft dv codec is not up to snuff = use a intermediate codec between the apps.. you can use uncompressed avi or QT ...

Have you considered Boris Red instead? It's right up there with Comustion and AE. Different tools for different jobs.
