AE footage darker when exported

Charlie Anderson

Not so clever
Hmmm seems if AE footage is darker when exported and brought into FCP. The only way I've been able to adjust for this is to export the entire clip/scene from AE to avoid a noticable change in color. Anyone else have this issue or know of a way to fix it?

go into AE settings and look for legacy color checkbox, check it and then render
it will look exactly the same

This is certainly one solution. However, this checkbox is specifically for working with projects from AE7 and earlier, not exactly a catch-all for color issues. It sounds like you are simply running into color management issue (and most likely, ignoring it altogether). The irony is that AE's Color Management is supposed to make color and gamma MORE predictable. But, over the last year it's done anything but that for most users.

This PDF here has a pretty good explanation of the color management process and workflow.

If the legacy checkbox works, cool. But there might be deeper issues with your color than this and it is certainly worth checking out.

Thread High Jack :D

I have a question about the color management. If you were exporting as a quicktime movie to be posted on the internet what settings of the color management would you set it at? This is for AE CS3
