AE filters

i am working on a project in AE. The project consists of sketches. I animated the sketches and the components. I am going to green (or blue) screen an actor into the "cartoon" world. Any suggestions on how to make the actor look as if he were a cartoon (what filter or settings?) and how can i work out how the actor could interact with animated objects (motion tracking?) . Any suggestions?

thanks in advance

Work out your timings and consider having a run through of someone as the 'cartoon' or use a standin (stick, cutout, etc) so the actor knwos where to look and his timings.

You can try posterizing and edge detection/outline type effects but it woudl be tough to recreate the same exact look as your drawn cartoon.

You could try exporting the entire clip as a .tga sequence and then you have the availability to batch process the whole thing using PhotoShop's Artistic filters. PhotoShop can achieve pretty close to the look you are wanting. Try that.

could you walk me through the process of exporting it as a .tga sequence and other steps, im new at photoshop and AE.

thanks

Sure. When you go to output movie, by default it is set to an .avi file with no compression. At the top of the render "window" you can choose from a drop down menu what format you want the output to be. There is a choice of many types of outputs from Photoshop Flimstrip, .jpg, .psd, .tga., even Quicktime. Just select .tga and create a new folder on whichever drive you want. then go into that folder, name the file (this will be the first few letters followed by 001,002,003,004,005,006,007,008, and so on).

That get you a targa sequence. Open one up in Photoshop, and go to Effects>Artistic, and choose one. You can go throught them all, tweaking and experimenting, until ou get the look you want. Then, you will need to set up an Action in Photoshop applying the effect, savig, and closing. Then when you go to File>Automate>Batch, you put in the location of the files, the starting file, and the Action used to process.
